TANGERANG – The “SaMen” design by UMN 2020 Architecture students was selected as one of the 10 best works at ARCH:ID on Wednesday (01/03/23).
Furthermore, the “SaMen” design was exhibited at ARCH:ID 2023 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, on March 16-19, 2023. The UMN Architecture student team hopes that the “SaMen” design can become a proposed facility for the campus.
To enter the top 10 best, the UMN Architecture student team competed with architecture students from all over Indonesia. ARCH:ID is a prestigious and international annual architecture conference and exhibition. The event was initiated by the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) and PT Citra Inovasi Strategi Exhibition.
“We are very happy to be awarded the 10 best works. We are also very grateful to God for this opportunity and to UMN for their support,” said one of the UMN team representatives, Alicia Roselle Tabrani.
The UMN Architecture student team consists of members Alicia Roselle Tabrani, Rafael Cornelius, Maria Elizabeth Nadi, Evlin Febrica Karnoto, Marvelly Audrey, and Jesse Jane. According to them, “SaMen” embodies UMN’s identity as an inclusive campus emphasizing humanism.

The term “SaMen” is probably no stranger to UMN’s academic community. SaMen stands for “Samping UMN” (Beside UMN), which is often a space for social interaction with people outside the campus area, such as street food vendors and online motorbike taxi drivers. This inspired the design of “SaMen,” which is designed as a portable public space to accommodate these social interactions.
“This module is designed based on user ergonomics to increase the comfort and safety of students, vendors, and online motorbike taxi drivers who needs shelter outside the campus roof,” Alicia said.
