Universitas Multimedia NUsantara (UMN) is an initiative of Dr. (HC) Jakob Oetama, one of the founders of Kompas Gramedia, on November 20, 2006, as a campus with an education based on information and communication technology (ICT). Initially, UMN had an office in the Wisma BNI 46 Building. The inaugural lecture of the first batch of UMN was held on September 3, 2007, with the theme “Development of Human Resources for the Age of ICT.”

Faculty and Study Programs of UMN
Currently, UMN has 4 (four) faculties, namely the Faculty of Engineering & Informatics, the Faculty of Business, the Faculty of Communication Studies, and the Faculty of Art & Design. In addition to the S1 and D3 programs, UMN has now provided two master’s study programs for Masters in Technology Management and Communication Science.
The following is a review of the majors at Multimedia Nusantara University:
Faculty of Engineering and Informatics
1. Information System
The focus of the UMN Information Systems study program is Big Data, so several specializations that support this include Big Data Specialist, IT Governance Specialist, Enterprise Resource Planning Specialist, and Database specialist. Of course, this will prepare students to face future technological and industrial developments. In addition, students majoring in Information Systems at UMN will have the opportunity to obtain two international certifications, namely the Data Visualization certificate and the Data Modeling certificate, which will be very useful for students in the world of work later.
2. Informatics Engineering
UMN’s Informatics Engineering study program focuses on student learning on artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence), Soft Engineering, and Cyber security. Students will be equipped with in-depth knowledge about the world of informatics from the experts. Professionals with expertise in these fields bring in the teaching staff. Then, the learning atmosphere is supported by various lab facilities that students can use to understand better the learning that is being carried out so that there is a balance between theory and practice.
3. Computer Engineering
The UMN Computer Engineering study program equips students with software and programming knowledge in both web and mobile formats. Students will also be equipped with knowledge of Cloud, Networks, Security, and Hardware which makes the scope of the curriculum for the UMN Computer Engineering course more comprehensive than the Computer Engineering study program at other universities. Graduates from this study program are prepared to have more knowledge in a more expansive area, more diverse skills, and opportunities to work in more diverse fields so that they can adapt to the needs of the development of industry 4.0.
4. Electrical Engineering
The UMN Electrical Engineering study program is industrial automation, where industrial automation helps to carry out production processes that humans cannot handle through mechanical, electronic, & computer-based systems. So that the control and control process will be carried out using machines, of course, this will significantly facilitate human work. For example, in making cars, each part’s design is carried out using machines or robots, which will make the production process faster and more efficient. It is adjusted to technological developments in the industrial era 4.0 so that students are expected to be able to face industrial products that are increasingly advanced from time to time to provide change for the world.
5. Engineering Physics
The UMN Physics Engineering study program is supported by facilities and infrastructure, including the New Media Tower and P.K. Ojong Jakob Oetama Tower Multimedia Nusantara University. The two buildings have received predicate and awards as energy-efficient buildings nationally and internationally. It makes the building ideal for students of the Engineering Physics study program to study the energy use of a building. Through the building, it will help students understand and learn about energy-efficient buildings directly.
FACULTY OF BUSINESS
1. Management
The UMN Management study program has advantages, including providing an up-to-date lecture curriculum with existing industry developments to hone students’ hard skills and introducing the industry directly from an early age to students through Executive Sharing, Plant Visits, and Business Visits.
In addition, UMN’s business incubator, Skystar Ventures, enables its graduates to become reliable technopreneurs. The incubation programs include providing funding, workspaces, and a curriculum that follows the development of business ideas and mentoring. Students of the Management study program are expected to be able to give birth to established startups based on technology and the internet since they were in college.
2. Accounting
The Accounting study program at Multimedia Nusantara University prepares its graduates to be ready to face the world of work by providing in-depth knowledge of theory and hands-on practice so that students can apply the idea in the world of work. It provides information and communication technology (ICT) based briefing using software that helps students compile financial reports and other accounting activities.
FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION
1. Strategic Communication
This study program focuses on the study of strategic communication, where communication science has a vital role in a company’s reputation and brand building. Students not only learn theoretically but also perform simulations with various facilities at the university. Based on design thinking and the use of multimedia, students can graduate to become professionals and entrepreneurs who are updated on industry changes and the strategic communication environment. 2. Digital Journalism
The Journalism study program at Multimedia Nusantara University focuses on using new technology to study new forms of journalism. Therefore, learning activities are also supported by adequate technology. Some courses are also adapted to the industry’s needs and existing technological developments, such as the mobile and social media journalism course, which utilizes gadgets in producing and distributing journalistic products through social media. In addition, the UMN journalism study program also equips students to be literate with hoax news (HOAKS) and how to identify them through digital fact-checking courses. FACULTY OF ART AND DESIGN
1. Visual Communication Design
Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Visual Communication Design upholds archipelagic values and prioritizes knowledge based on information technology (ICT) developments that are tailored to the industry’s future needs.
DKV study program implements an up-to-date curriculum and facilitates students with complete facilities and infrastructure and professional teaching staff. Then, students will be equipped with the development of an entrepreneurial spirit that prepares them to be ready to face the real work industry. In addition, this study program has also been recognized by industry and design professional associations nationally and internationally.
2. Architecture
The architectural study program at Multimedia Nusantara University puts forward an understanding of Green Building which focuses on environmental sustainability. Provide opportunities for students to study building design by paying attention to energy-saving and environmentally friendly aspects, which are currently a global trend. Students are also equipped with knowledge of the latest technological developments, such as the use of software that has been widely used in the real world of work to support students in architectural design. 3. Movies and Animation
The Film Department of Multimedia Nusantara University is the only study program that combines film and animation into one study program. HOSPITALITY DIPLOMA PROGRAM
The D3 Hospitality study program at UMN prepares graduates to be ready to work in the industrial world through direct internship experience for one year, which is divided into six months in the room division and the next six months in the food and beverage section. This internship is provided so that they understand in-depth how the hotel industry works and allows students to obtain two certificates of competence according to their field of interest before they graduate.
In addition to the aspects of knowledge and ability, D3 Hospitality UMN also sees another essential factor, namely the attitudes and behaviors that hospitality students must possess. By implementing the PASS System (Personal Attitudes Scoring System), students will be assessed based on their attitudes and behavior as true hoteliers.
