TANGERANG – 2019 UMN Communication Science student Bryan Benaiah Zen was chosen as one of the representatives from Indonesia in the DAESANG E.T.F.F. (Eat & Travel Film Festival) competition. He collaborated with students from Vietnam and South Korea to produce a short film.
DAESANG E.T.F.F. (Eat & Travel Film Festival) initiated a cultural exchange collaboration of South Korean, Indonesian, and Vietnamese students to produce short films using gadgets. In total, there were 16 representatives from each country. Furthermore, two representatives from each country were gathered into one group to produce a movie about different cultures and food.
For about three weeks, Bryan and his team, “Zen Zen Production,” worked on a short film project titled “Timeless Affections.” The movie’s setting was taken in three countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Korea. The movie tells the story of a photographer, Jackson, who recalls a moment with his ex-girlfriend, Ahyeon while eating at a restaurant.
Bryan Benaiah Zen is a UMN Communication student who studied film independently (self-taught).
“This experience made me a tolerant person and willing to learn about each other’s differences. At first, I doubted that communication would be difficult when we met. However, after we met, all doubts disappeared because we understood each other,” said Bryan.
Armed with learning cinematography through YouTube and social media creators, Bryan was trusted to direct the movie “Timeless Affections.” Although the film has yet to win, Bryan and his team admitted that they really enjoyed the process of making this movie.
