Jakarta – Dr. Tech. Rahmi Andarini, a lecturer in the Physics Engineering study program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), won a grant from KONEKSI some time ago. KONEKSI is a program that supports partnerships between Indonesia and Australia in science and innovation.
Rahmi herself participated in research entitled “Decarbonization Pathways for Indonesia’s Buses Infrastructure (DIBI) using Routing Energy Estimation on Tool, Renewable Energy and Ecosystem Modeling.” The study seeks to use digital twinning of Australian bus depot infrastructure in Indonesia to make it easier for public transportation designers to implement electric bus use in Indonesia.
Some of the elements looked at in the study range from energy efficiency, pollutants present, and how the use of electric buses can impact various community groups. The hope is that this study can help develop more sustainable public transportation.
The study also collaborates with various institutions, ranging from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), the Surakarta City Government Transportation Office, the National Electric Vehicle Center of Excellence, BRIN, EVENERGI, Sebelas Maret University, ITP Renewables, ICLEI, and ICENERGY INSTITUTE.
When interviewed by UMN News Service, Rahmi said that one important thing to remember when proposing research is to adjust the topic to current global conditions.
“In general, it can be seen from the research topic, which must adjust to current global needs (SDGs). For example, energy efficiency is a ‘hot’ topic because of climate change and fossil energy sources are running out. So, the needs are energy efficiency and renewable energy,” she told UMN News Service.
“In addition, the importance of equality and inclusivity is an urgent need for all fields, meaning that every activity must consider the involvement of men and women, (old) people, (young) people, children, low income and disabled,” she continued.
Discussing the future, Rahmi hopes that more UMN lecturers can get international research grants. She also shared that she and a team of other lecturers are currently working on a project funded by the US LBNL.
