November 6, 2015Prepare Your Career With UMN
November 10, 2015Face-to-face method is a common method that we usually do to study or listen to a seminar. On the one hand, this certainly takes time and cost if the location of the lecture or seminar is far away, especially if the location is abroad.
UMN then took the initiative to get around this by holding an interactive lecture conducted in conjunction with the University of Rheiische Fachhocshschule (RFH), Koeln, Germany on Friday (6/11) at the UMN Lecture Hall. This interactive lecture themed Media as the Fourth Estate in Democratic Society begins at pk. 2:30 p.m. using video conference. The speakers of this lecture are from RFH and UMN.
Prof. Dr. Martin Wortmann, CEO and President of RFH expressed his views on the media in Germany as a major force in the country for UMN students who were attending a video conference at the time. He said the media had a special impact and role in a country. “The media can shape public opinion while educating everyone in society,” he explained.
Wortmann then took the example of how the media could then intervene in legislative, judicial, and executive powers in Germany. “The media can drop charges of guilt on politicians even before the politician is found guilty by a judge. This is possible because the media in its investigative journalism has strong evidence that the politician is corrupt. As a result, once the case is raised on the surface, the politician will declare his resignation,” he further said.
Not much different, Dr. Ninok Leksono, rector of UMN also gave a short lecture via video conference for RFH students in Germany. At the end of the lecture, some of the German and UMN students also asked questions about communication issues related to Germany and Indonesia. One of the questions given by German students is related to internet connections that are still minimal in Indonesia.
This interactive kuliha is a breakthrough as well as the beginning of the cooperation between UMN and RFH. At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Muliawati Siswanto, Vice Rector for Relations and Cooperation of UMN expressed his hope that this already established relationship could develop better. “It’s a good start. I hope this relationship can continue and even become a fruitful cooperation for both parties.” (*)
