Tangerang – On (20/01/2025), Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) inaugurated a collaboration with National Geographic. This collaboration aims to achieve the same vision and mission by UMN and National Geographic, namely the issue of sustainability. The meeting also discussed the future cooperation between UMN and National Geographic.
The global public is becoming increasingly concerned about sustainability. UMN has been committed to sustainability since 2007. UMN hopes to contribute to the earth’s sustainability through this small step.
“Sustainability in UMN itself must currently refer to the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), this is UMN’s commitment to building a campus that is environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and much more. We are currently trying to enter the world rankings and continue to improve our rankings in both QS Star and UI Green Metric. I am happy with this collaboration, I hope it can strengthen each other to be committed and educate the public about sustainability aspects,” Andrey said.
For Andrey, it is equally important to implement sustainability in real life, which is supported by improving the community’s welfare. Andrey hopes that through this collaboration, we can synergize, realize various steps, and create a better world together with National Geographic.
Didi Kasim, Editorial in Chief of National Geographic, said that there has been no significant change over the past twenty years, even though many things have been done about sustainability and biodiversity issues. As time goes by, Didi sees many views changing.
“We need new and different capabilities and spaces, together with UMN I hope to provide a new perspective, because I see UMN has many capabilities. We want to be able to improve literacy and a better direction, so that we can both bring significant impacts and opportunities to Earth to become a better place,” Didi said.
In the discussion, Didi also said that National Geographic not only wants to be seen as a media outlet but also wants to educate and provide a lot of potential in Indonesia. For Didi, collaboration with academics will be very helpful.
“In line with UMN’s vision and mission, we open many opportunities for UMN, such as community development in villages to be accepted by UNESCO, so that UMN can explore culture and empower local communities,” Didi continued.
Dr. Ir. P. M. Winarno, M.Kom., the Vice-Rector for LPPM UMN, also said that this collaboration is a good opportunity for UMN and National Geographic, seeing that UMN itself often conducts community outreach to several villages in the Tangerang area.
“We can also implement this collaboration into learning in UMN, humanities study courses such as Civic Education and Religion. Content from National Geographic can be used as case studies for students and lecturers’ research and vice versa. UMN can provide relevant journals or research for National Geographic,” Winarno said.
The collaboration between UMN and National Geographic is expected to provide output and have an impact on the Earth. In addition, it is hoped that this collaboration can develop and complement each other between UMN and National Geographic.
