October 2, 2015Who would have thought with such a short preparation, Rinaldo Rusli (Communication Science 2012) and Joanika Juanda (Visual Communication Design 2012) managed to come out as the 1st and 2nd winners of the 2015 Banten Provincial Language Ambassador competition on Friday (11/9). They both managed to pass the selection stage very well and set aside participants from various other universities in Banten area.
Initially Aldo and Joan claimed to be surprised when selected to participate in this Language Ambassador race. But the shock is replaced with a sense of pride because it can represent UMN. Minimal preparation time is also used as much as possible to equip themselves to carry out the race.
Aldo explained that during the 3-day quarantine from Wednesday, (9/9) to Friday (11/9), they were given a briefing and required to take a series of tests. “Among others, the UKBI test, an interview test consisting of 4 posts, namely personality tests, foreign language tests, Indonesian tests, and regional language tests,” said the Bogor-born man.
Both acknowledged the many difficulties they had gained during this race. One of them according to Aldo is while undergoing a regional language test. “I don’t know about Sundanese,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to this Palembang-born woman, the presentation test is the most challenging part of the race. “I got a presentation turn using a foreign language. My presentation turn was at the end and this made me have to turn my mind how to raise the mood of other participants to listen to the presentation that I delivered, “said Joan.
In the end, the struggle of the two bore sweet fruit. Especially for Aldo who managed to win the first and officially held the title of Ambassador of The Prince of Banten Province 2015. With this new degree, this umn Faculty of Communication Sciences student has a vision to preserve the use of Indonesian among young people.
“There are several things that I will do as a Language Ambassador of Banten Province. The first is to use good and correct Indonesian. Then, support banten province to uphold the Indonesian. Not to forget, I also want to invite friends from among young people to get to know and use good and correct Indonesian,” he explained.
Aldo will represent Banten province to participate in the 2015 National Language Ambassador competition in early October in Jakarta. Keep it up Aldo and Joan in preserving Indonesian Language! (*)
