August 5, 2024Media Visit of the UMN Journalism Study Program to B Universe (Doc. UMN).
Jakarta—On Monday (29/07), the UMN Journalism Study Program visited B Universe Media to visit and discuss cooperation in the Journalism study program. In addition, there were discussions about media development and media adaptation to technological developments. The UMN Journalism Study Program was also allowed an office tour in this meeting.
In this meeting, B Universe briefly introduced its multi-platforms ranging from Social Media, Activation & Experience, KOL Management, News Portal, and many more. They also explained their goals in 2024.
B Universe and the UMN Journalism Study Program want to explore new things in depth, such as social media movements, online media, and Artificial Intelligence. This cooperation is based on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely collaboration, research, and community service.
“The collaboration that can be done is media research, as we research about the media and what society and industry need today. So, students can explore new things from various categories according to existing data. In addition, there is community service, and the most important thing is internship collaboration because many courses are compatible with B Universe,” said Veronika Kaban, M.Si, the Deputy Head of the Journalism Study Program.
In addition to this internship collaboration, Veronika also opens collaborations such as live forums, talk shows, guest lectures, comparative studies, and others.
“We welcome students who want to conduct internships. We ourselves have many media that can adjust to students’ wishes. We want students to have experience in writing, design, producing, and others, but of course, there will be a selection process,” said Syukri Rahmatullah, chief Editor of Integrated Portal.
B Universe also welcomes UMN to organize other collaborations besides internships, such as Goes To Campus activities, creating joint events that can talk about many things such as AI, Economics, Lifestyle, and other beneficial collaborations.
The discussion continued with the current media development, especially in social media and Artificial Intelligence.
“Looking at the industry, we are very willing to help and learn together. Many things can be explored together, such as the development of social media and AI. These technologies cannot be avoided because if we do not follow the existing developments, we will be left behind, but we also continue to teach students basic skills in journalism,” said Samiaji Bintang Nusantara S.T., M.A., Head of the Journalism Study Program.
B Universe also agrees with this. They see the existing developments and need to follow the audience’s needs. Adaptation is not an option but an obligation. This discussion continued with a discussion of the current media development.
“With the development of social media nowadays, people can also quickly get information, but a lot of information does not match the facts. This is probably because many young people prefer information that is to the point and specific,” said Syukri.
Syukri also stated in this discussion that this is true. Therefore, B Universe always targets its media specifically.
“Conventional media will not die or be defeated by social media because people will still look for the truth through conventional media to fact-check existing information,” concluded Syukri.
