May 27, 2024Tangerang— In this digital era, Machine Learning has become one of the most sought-after fields in various industries. However, learning Machine Learning is often a complex and challenging process for beginners without an IT background. Therefore, pursuing a career in this field requires careful preparation and the most appropriate steps.
On 29 April 2024, DQLab, one of Indonesia’s leading data learning platforms, held another Bootcamp Live Class program titled “Exploring Machine Learning: A Practical Guide.” This training explores the secrets of various things related to Machine Learning through interactive and hands-on discussions by inviting Rizqi Prima, a Data Analyst at eFishery, as the presenter.
Rizqi opened the class with an interactive discussion, using a quick poll to determine the background of the participants who attended this program. The result is that many participants in this program are beginners who do not have a background in IT, and only a small number have a background in IT, either from work or education. So, only a few participants have sufficient expertise in using Python, especially for processing data.
Furthermore, he gave a basic overview of Machine Learning and why it is often discussed in IT developments, such as work programs, papers, and theses. The goal is for the participants to easily and correctly understand the essence of machine learning.
“ML is the brains or branching of AI that focuses on data and algorithms to imitate how humans work and think to improve their accuracy,” Rizqi said.
He also explained that the method used in machine learning is almost the same as that used by humans, who have to adjust their learning styles to understand something conventionally.
For example, by reading books, practicing, or observing, they can process data into information and then analyze it to reach the right conclusion or decision. Machine Learning adapts this process, but the difference is that the data processing process up to decision-making can already be done automatically with computer language. In addition, he provided contextual examples of machine learning applications that are very easy for beginners to understand.
“For example, we have a garden where we also have an automatic water sprayer. When would the water sprayer start spraying? Well, if, for example, it is predicted to be hot that day based on Google, then it automatically water. If it is predicted to rain that day, then it will not water because it has sensors that function to provide input that does not involve human intervention. That’s an example of Machine Learning,” Rizqi said.
On this occasion, Rizqi also discussed algorithms and essential aspects of Machine Learning and explained them with a very easy-to-understand parable. Rizqi explained the algorithm as a secret recipe that can drive a computer to learn, process, and analyze data into valuable information based on various patterns from the input given so that it can create a prediction. A common example is weather prediction.
Furthermore, he explained the groups of algorithms in Machine Learning that are commonly learned and used. First, there is Unsupervised Learning to group data with Clustering methods, such as segmenting customers, transaction patterns, and detecting data anomalies.
Second, there is Supervised learning, which predicts outputs and patterns recognized from a dataset. An example of an algorithm that can be used in Supervised Learning is to predict the risk of diabetes in a person based on age, heredity, and others.
Rizqi also provided important information about frameworks commonly used in Machine Learning algorithms. One of them reviewed was the CRISP-DM framework. He explained the stages of business understanding, data understanding, preparation, modeling, and evaluation to deployment using various programming languages, especially Python, which has multiple powerful libraries that can support the creation of Machine Learning algorithms, such as Pandas, SciPy, and Scikit-Learn.
Not only explaining theoretically, at the end of the session, he also invited the participants to practice it directly with real datasets. This hands-on session also allowed participants to implement the knowledge gained during learning using the Premium Module through the Live Code Editor with the help of DQLab’s flagship feature, Ask AI Chatbot.
For beginners who want to improve their skills for a career in Machine Learning, DQLab offers the Machine Learning & AI for Beginner Bootcamp program. This program is specially designed with a comprehensive industry-based curriculum, professional mentors, and effective learning methods, even for beginners with no IT background. Want to know more?
