March 7, 2017To increase the reading interest of Indonesian people and transform in accordance with the times, Kompas Daily made several new breakthroughs, namely by launching Kompas e-paper in the network (online) and Kompas.id. The launch conducted at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) on Tuesday (28/2) made UMN the first campus that can access Kompas online e-paper (https://epaper.kompas.umn.ac.id/) for free on UMN wifi network.
In his speech at this launch event, Hardanto Subagyo as The Business Director of Kompas Daily explained that the development of technology gave rise to pessimism that newspapers will continue to live. There is an assumption that the more advanced and better the internet connection in a country, the more likely a newspaper is to be abandoned by its readers.
“But this assumption was broken with a Nielsen survey in 2016 that showed that 69% of American companies still read newspapers. Even another Nielsen survey in the United States shows that young people still read newspapers but in digital format.”
This is what then makes Daily Kompas take the initiative to make a breakthrough. Kompas believes that newspapers must be able to adapt by changing their physical to different forms, not only printed but also digital.
“Newspapers should be multiplatform content providers. Thus newspapers can not only retain old readers but also attract new readers from the millennial generation. By launching kompas e-paper online and Kompas.id it is expected that more people will be able to access news from Kompas Daily, “said Hardanto again.
In this launch event, also presented about kompas online e-paper products and Kompas.id. Online Compass e-paper is a digital replica of daily kompas print that can be accessed freely limited in certain areas. Through this e-paper can find quality credible content, at any time in our activity area. While Kompas.id displays the other side of the Daily Kompas print. Kompas.id enrich the news of Kompas Daily in more depth equipped with a variety of powerful visual displays.
Ninok Leksono as Rector of UMN hopes that with the existence of online Kompas e-paper and Kompas.id can add insight and increase people’s reading interest, especially umn academic community. “Indonesian reading interest only ranks 62nd out of 65 countries in the world. I hope that with the launch and presence of online Kompas e-paper and Kompas.id in umn network in addition to being able to bring UMN closer to its original source, Kompas, can also increase reading interest and increase the competitiveness of UMN academic community, “said Ninok.
