TANGERANG – The Master of Communication Science of UMN held a public lecture entitled “Personal Data Protection in the Corporate World” at UMN’s Lecture Hall on Saturday (30/8). This event was held for the new student orientation of MIK UMN batch 3.
“In the future, this public lecture will become a routine activity at the beginning of every semester that invites key speakers to discuss actual issues related to strategic communication,” the Head of the Master of Communication Studies Program at UMN, Agustinus Rusdianto Berto, said.
Recently, the public has been busy highlighting the Ministry of Communication and Information policy regarding the Implementation of the Electronic System Operator (Penyelenggara Sistem Elektronik/PSE). Various digital platforms belonging to well-known companies are threatened with being blocked if they do not register for the PSE.
Responding to this issue, Berto hopes that this public lecture can provide students with an understanding, both from the government and corporate perspectives. Especially the understanding of the company’s strategy in managing and protecting the personal data of its consumers.
Likewise from an academic point of view. According to Berto, understanding personal data in the corporate sphere is also important to safeguard democratic principles.
“Therefore, this issue needs to be clarified from various perspectives in terms of efforts to protect the security and confidentiality of personal data without threatening the digital freedom of its users,” Berto explained.
This event invited two speakers, namely the Director General of Information & Public Communication of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Usman Kansong, and the Corporate Communication Director of Kompas Gramedia, Glory Oyong.
On this occasion, Usman Kansong explained the important points of personal data protection based on the PDP Bill, the corporate sectors (PSE) that often violate personal data protection, personal data protection strategies, important points in the PM Kominfo Number 5 of 2020 concerning PSE in the private sphere and privacy, as well as content moderation obligations.
Meanwhile, Glory Oyong explained the application of privacy policy standards that refer to European Union standards, namely the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
