TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) Library held Literacy Week 2022 themed “Embracing Diversity Through Literacy”. This activity is a series of events to celebrate International Literacy Day by holding competitions, games, talk shows, and workshops, on 8-9 September 2022.
Fajarika Rahmawati, the Library Services Officer, explained that this activity was held to provide an understanding and maximize information literacy at various levels of society.
“UMN Library can positively impact growth, development, and maximizing Information Literacy. So that we can slowly understand and accept differences and diversity,” Rika said.
This activity is divided into two, namely pre-event activities and main events. Literacy Week pre-events are in the form of competitions that challenge creativity, such as Logo Design, Voice Over, or What I Read Challenge competitions and 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competitions that aim to spread awareness and research enthusiasm among students.
The main event was no less lively at the Lecture Theater with Digital Literacy Talkshow activities, Screening of Disability-themed Short Films and ended with a Sign Language Workshop.
The event also invited F.X Lilik Dwi Mardjianto, S.S., M.A (UMN) and Dr. Devie Rahmawati, M.Hum (UI), the main Literacy Week event began with “Talk Show: Safe “Surfing” with Digital Literacy Literacy” which was attended by UMN academics, on Thursday (8/9/2022).
This talk show became rich because the two speakers took different angles to be able to “literate” digital literacy. Lilik presented material on how to identify and eradicate misinformation. At the same time, Devie provided material on how important it is to maintain the security of personal data and types of data theft to identify trends that can potentially steal personal data.
The event continued the next day (9/9/2022) with the “Screening & Discussion of Disability-themed Short Films,” which was a collaboration between UMN Library and Popsicle UKM. The screening of this short film also invited Rizki, one of the film actors to be present among the participants in the discussion session after the film screening.
Led by Nada from PUSBISINDO Banten, “Sign Language Workshop: Creating Inclusivity for Quality Campuses” became the activity that ended the series of Literacy Week 2022. This activity aims to raise awareness and interest of the UMN academic community towards deaf culture to create an inclusive & disability-friendly environment.
Nada, a deaf teacher, explained materials about deaf culture in universities and guided the practice of basic sign language to UMN academics.
