Biography

Setelah menamatkan pendidikan S-1 di Program Studi Teknik Material Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) tahun 2005, Niki Prastomo memperoleh kesempatan untuk melanjutkan studi Pasca Sarjana melalui program AUN/SEED-Net – JICA Scholarship di School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) untuk program S-2 dan di Departemen Functional Materials Engineering Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) Jepang untuk program S-3. Pada November 2010, setelah menyelesaikan studi doktoralnya, Niki Prastomo kembali ke Indonesia untuk memenuhi panggilan hati mengabdi di dunia pendidikan. Saat ini Niki adalah pengajar di Jurusan Teknik Fisika serta Dekan Fakultas Teknik dan Informatika di Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN).

Bidang keilmuan yang didalami oleh Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc. adalah teknologi bahan keramik mutakhir, termasuk di dalamnya adalah pemanfaatan, proses pembuatan, dan sifat-sifatnya. Riset dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dalam bidang energi terbarukan, terutama pembangkitan energi tenaga surya, juga sudah banyak dilakukan. Beberapa hasil riset yang dilaksanakan telah diterbitkan di berbagai jurnal Internasional seperti Journal of Sol-gel Science and Technology, Material Science Engineering, Synthetic Metals, Materials Letters, Journal of Ceramic Society of Japan, Journal of European Ceramic Society, dan Applied Surface Science.

Selain aktifitasnya di dunia pendidikan tingkat universitas, Niki juga tertarik mengembangkan pendidikan sains khusus untuk anak-anak. Hal ini diakukan dengan berbagi ilmu dan pemahaman mengenai sains melalui seminar dan Youtube channel (SaturdayScienceClass-SSC). Niki percaya bahwa pemahaman tambahan bahwa sains dapat menjadi sebuah hal yang menyenangkan bagi anak-anak akan menjadikan sebuah kontribusi yang signifikan untuk pengembangan diri anak-anak.
