Several benefits can be obtained by students when participating in volunteer activities. Volunteering can be part of your experience to prepare you for the future, as experiences can be gained not only through work but also through social activities. Then, what are the benefits of volunteering for students? Check out the discussion below.
Volunteer itself, when translated into Bahasa Indonesia, means sukarelawan, relawan, tenaga sukarela, etc. In the Big Indonesian Dictionary, volunteers are people who carry out an activity voluntarily (not because it is forced or obliged).
Volunteering or becoming a volunteer is one form of participating in social activities. Usually, this activity aims to help answer problems in the surrounding environment. A person can be said to be a volunteer if they carry out these activities of their own free will and does not seek profit as their primary goal.

Benefits of Being a Volunteer
Being a volunteer has several benefits that can be obtained. What are they?
-
Improve Softskill or Skills
Volunteering is certainly not easy because you must put your heart into participating in social activities. However, becoming a volunteer can improve your soft skills and skills in general. The skills obtained can be useful in the future when dealing with various situations.
Some soft skills that may be relevant when volunteering are communication, leadership, collaboration, and time management. In addition, you’ll get more soft skills when volunteering. The four soft skills mentioned are relevant to your needs as a student.
-
Gain More Experiences
The next benefit for you when participating in volunteer activities is the added experience. This experience can also be an asset when dealing with future situations. By volunteering, you might learn and experience things that you never knew.
You can use those experiences and apply them to similar situations in the future. There is also a saying that “the best teacher is experience”; it seems that this saying is true. In reality, we often choose or decide something based on the experiences we’ve experienced.
-
Expand Connection and Links
The next benefit is building and expanding your connection and links. The link is a social network where you’re volunteering. When you build and broaden your relationships, this will undoubtedly benefit you in the future. Not infrequently, a link or network of friends or acquaintances is the answer to a problem.
When participating in volunteer activities, you will be working together with other people. This can be an excellent way to establish a network of friends. Because, in reality, everyone in life needs people.
-
Sensitive Towards Your Surroundings
By volunteering, you’re indirectly learning how to be sensitive toward others. When you are sensitive to the environment around you, you may learn the value of life.
Being sensitive to your surroundings is something that is relevant at this time. This becomes a moral picture for someone, especially in the current world situation; many are only concerned with their personal goals. In addition, this sensitive attitude teaches us to control our emotions and understand other people’s conditions.
