TANGERANG – The 2021 UMN Accounting student team, “Uwemen,” won second place in the Airlangga Accounting Competition category “UNAIR National Accounting Competition (UNAC) 2023” on Saturday (23/9/23). They are Sydney Tania Anryndra, Andre Immanuel Setiawan, and Vella Octania.
“This is the first time Team Uwemen participated in a national-level competition, immediately winning second place at a reputable state university. Very proud! Considering that the competitors are also not from random universities, such as Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta, University of Indonesia, and others,” said the Head of UMN’s Accounting Study Program, Stefanus Ariyanto, S.E, M.Ak., CPSAK, CA.
There are at least dozens of teams of Accounting students throughout Indonesia participating in the competition held by the Accounting Student Association of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga. This year’s theme is “Optimizing Artificial Intelligence for Establishing the Future Accountant to Achieve Sustainability in The 5.0 Era.” Participants are expected to be technology literate and utilize it to realize sustainability in the world of the accounting profession.

“As Accounting students at UMN, there is a lot of material related to digitalization, technology, automation, and so on, which is inserted into the delivery of material related to the accounting profession. This certainly helped us a lot in the final round, where we presented the role of accountants in the future with the rise of digitalization and AI that is starting to take over human jobs,” Sydney explained.
The Uwemen team also felt proud and admitted that they were very surprised to be able to achieve this achievement in their first competition. They hope that in the future, they will have the opportunity to participate in the competition again. This achievement is also an inspiration for Accounting students at UMN.
Prof. Stefanus Ariyanto said that the Accounting Study Program curriculum has indeed included the need for technology introduction that is relevant to industry needs. This is also enriched by material from expert talks, guest lecturers, and independent workshops on technology. Thus, the scope of learning is expected to increase UMN Accounting students’ understanding of AI and Data Analytics.
“I hope this will trigger them to participate more actively in other competitions. Participating in a competition is the same as learning all lecture material, so the benefits are very good for them,” said Stephen.
