“Welcome to UMN. We are very happy because today, we have our old friend. It has been a long time since UMN and UTAR have cooperated and had a relationship. I hope today we will have ample time to discuss our future collaboration,” Muliawati said, welcoming UTAR Malaysia representatives.
“When I stepped out of my car, I was very impressed with UMN in terms of environment, etc. We saw greens and trees, which are unique to have on a campus. Hopefully today, we can discuss about having more student and staff exchange, and other activities that can benefit both institutions,” Faiz said.
The meeting continued with two parties sharing their timelines and the kinds of programs they have. Friska started the discussion by suggesting ideas for collaboration, such as research collaboration, lecturer exchange, student exchange, and mobility programs.
“Lecturer exchange is easy as we can conduct them through Zoom meetings, Regarding student exchange, we want to conduct it on-site. We hope later from the student exchange, we can give three students waivers,” Friska said.
In addition, Friska shared that UMN is very concerned about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She hopes UMN and UTAR can collaborate on these issues.

“I see similarities between our campuses, like the UI grid metrics and ranking. So, we can collaborate together through case studies or programs like the ‘AI Hackathon’ program, and even international competitions or conducting AI forums amongst lectures,” Friska added.
Responding to Friska’s suggestions, UTAR Malaysia representatives shared the various programs they conducted on their campus, which were very similar to UMN’s. The many similarities mean both institutions can easily collaborate in various activities.
Choon also invited UMN to submit papers to the conference of UTAR Malaysia’s Faculty of Finance and Three Research Centers. UMN can also attend the event, either online or physically.
“I can see we have much in common in many fields, from communication science, and sustainability, to IoT and AI. We can definitely conduct student exchanges and international competitions and events,” Gara said.
Many ideas and programs from research and programs in technology, finance, social media, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and more were discussed. We hope this meeting can lead to new projects that benefit the two institutions and society.
