Pengesahan MoU UMN & IIAI (Dok. UMN)
TANGERANG – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) welcomed the International Institute of Applied Informatics (IIAI), Japan, to the UMN campus on February 24, 2025. Several IIAI Japan representatives visited UMN as guest lecturers and discussed possible collaboration ideas with UMN.
According to its official website, IIAI was founded in 2012 as a certified non-profit and tax-exempt organization by the government of Japan. Its mission includes helping researchers present their newest academic contributions at international conferences and journals. This decade, IIAI made 20+ MOUs with universities to assist with their education, research, and services.
“Thank you for your lecture this morning. Today’s meeting will discuss what we will do after the MoU signing so we can quickly realize our collaboration and get fruitful results,” Dr. Ir. Andrey Andoko, M.Sc., UMN Rector, said, opening the meeting.
In his speech, Prof. Tokuro Matsuo, Ph.D., CEO of IIAI and Professor of AAIT Tokyo Metropolitan University Japan, expressed his happiness at visiting UMN and emphasized the importance of research and publications.
“Education is important, but many universities that survive well concentrate on research and publishing their writing. This means they can pass their knowledge to their students,” Tokuro said.
Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., UMN Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, then introduced UMN’s experiences on research collaborations and provided two possible research collaboration ideas.
“We have a matching fund grant; maybe we can have this scheme, too. Hopefully, we can also expand the AAIT because you are the research director there. Also, regarding editor journals, I think it would be nice if you could invite some of our lecturers,” Friska said.
“We could have a full collaboration in research, and hopefully, we can have the publication, as you mentioned, and the international conference. We have an international conference in October, and we hope to invite you,” Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., UMN Engineering and Informatics Faculty Dean, added.
UMN also mentioned KOICA, which the IIAI can join and collaborate with. Both parties shared plenty of their expertise, experience, and thoughts in research collaborations. There are a lot of things that UMN and IIAI can explore in the future.
In addition to the meeting, Tokuro and Prof. Yuya Yokoyama, Ph.D., Professor of IIAI Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, also gave a guest lecture for UMN students. The lecture discussed various aspects of the technological field, such as the cyber world, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, the evolution of industry and technology, the role of robots in society, and more. The two speakers focused on how collaborative research between institutions can positively impact society.
The meeting to discuss collaboration ideas and the public lecture was successfully conducted, and various fruitful information was discussed. We hope that UMN can soon realize its collaboration ideas with IIAI and that the public lecture can provide new insights for students and inspire them in their studies.
