Tangerang – At UMN, conserving water is more than a campus initiative—it’s part of a growing commitment to a sustainable future. From simple reminders in restrooms to practical updates around campus, we’re finding easy ways to make every drop count. Small stickers placed in bathrooms encourage mindful use, serving as gentle reminders to all of us to think twice before turning on the tap. These small nudges help create habits that can spread beyond campus, fostering a culture of water awareness.
We’ve also made practical updates to our fixtures to make water-saving effortless. Many traditional faucets have been replaced with “tap-to-go” push taps, which automatically stop the flow of water after use. This simple adjustment prevents water from being left running accidentally and ensures water is only used as needed. By swapping out conventional taps for this more efficient option, we’re taking straightforward steps toward lasting water conservation.
Campus-wide, we’re also embracing efficient systems to support our water-saving goals. In over 53,000 square meters of campus, press-to-flow valves are in place, so water flows only when needed, reducing unnecessary waste. Every campus building is equipped with low-volume flush systems, each using just 3.6 liters of water per flush—significantly reducing water use with every flush. These choices reflect our dedication to using water responsibly across UMN.
Together, these measures encourage a mindful approach to water use and demonstrate that small actions can make a big difference. Our hope is to inspire a community that values water conservation, helping create positive habits that benefit both our campus and the broader community for years to come.
