August 21, 2023UMN’s Commitment to Inclusive Graduation: Empowering 15% Low-Income Graduates by 2025
August 24, 2023Tangerang – Poverty is a persistent cycle that affects countless lives, limiting access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for advancement. Recognizing the transformative power of education, UMN has set a clear target: to allocate 15% of its student body to students from low-income backgrounds by 2025. This goal reflects our commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty through education, giving disadvantaged students a chance to excel and build a brighter future. With this target, UMN actively fosters a more inclusive academic community where all students have equal opportunities to thrive.
In 2023, UMN made a significant stride toward this goal, welcoming 487 students from low-income families—already 13% of the student body—who met academic requirements to join our community. By embracing these students and providing them with access to all university facilities and resources, UMN ensures that financial challenges do not hinder their educational journey. This policy not only brings in talented students from diverse backgrounds but also builds an environment where inclusivity and support empower students to excel alongside their peers.
To further support these students, UMN offers a variety of scholarship programs specifically targeted at low-income groups. These include the KIP-K Scholarship, ADik Papua, ADik Papua Barat, ADEM, Migrant Worker Scholarship, and KJMU Scholarship. These scholarships cover tuition fees and, in many cases, additional educational expenses such as housing and study materials. This financial assistance allows students to focus on their studies and personal development without the burden of financial strain. Additionally, the university provides subsidized dormitory fees and student aid, ensuring that educational costs do not become a barrier for those in need.
UMN’s commitment to enrolling low-income students extends beyond financial support. It includes comprehensive services such as academic counseling, mental health support, and mentorship programs. By establishing a strong support network, UMN enables these students to develop the skills and resilience needed for success. This 15% enrollment target is not just a number; it symbolizes UMN’s mission to create lasting change through education, empowering individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to uplift themselves and their communities.
