Tangerang – UMN received a visit from Kalbis University for a comparative study. The meeting took place in the Alor room, Building A, UMN, and was attended by university officials, including vice-rectors, deans, heads of study programs, and lecturers (3/7).
UMN and Kalbis University held a discussion meeting that focused on improving the quality of universities. The meeting between the two educational institutions was motivated by a letter of request for a comparative study submitted by Kalbis. Previously, Kalbis had just changed its status from institute to university in January. The meeting was a platform for the two universities to learn from each other and share their experiences in technical matters.
“There are several topics that were discussed in this meeting, namely quality assurance, learning management, research management, and Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM) management,” said Dr. Ir. P. M. Winarno, M.Kom. as Director of the Institute for Research and Community Service.
In the discussion on quality assurance, Kalbis University highlighted the aspects of student and course assessment. They were interested in gaining further insight into how UMN assesses student performance and course evaluations. This shows Kalbis’ desire to improve and strengthen its quality assurance system by learning practices from other institutions.
Regarding research and management, Kalbis University asked about funding, research incentives, and access to scientific journals. They were interested in understanding more about the funding strategy implemented by UMN and the incentives given to researchers, especially related to journal publications. UMN has implemented incentives for researchers who successfully publish articles in journals with a minimum SINTA 3 rating, with even higher incentive levels for achieving publications in internationally reputable journals, such as Scopus. In addition, UMN and Kalbis also discussed potential future collaborations related to journal creation.
At the meeting, Altobeli Labodally, S.Sos., M.Ikom., as the Head of Kalbis University’s Communications Study Program, asked questions about the journalism study program, considering that students who take this major will be directly involved in the media world and the crew industry. In answering the question, the Head of UMN’s Communication Science Study Program, Cendera Rizky Anugrah Bangun, M.Si., familiarly called Kiky, revealed that UMN has established various collaborations with industry and other partners. This allows UMN students to participate in internship programs at various partner companies and will enable them to gain hands-on experience relevant to journalism.
Kalbis University also asked about one of UMN’s study programs, the Distance Learning Program (Pelajaran Jarak Jauh/PJJ). Kiky explained the intricacies of PJJ, from the number of meetings to the number of participants.
“They asked about the PJJ learning system, we explained that there are 14 meetings and 3 face-to-face meetings. The participants can come from outside the city and abroad,” Kiky replied.
UMN emphasizes its contribution to the surrounding environment, including other educational institutions, through this meeting. UMN expresses its desire to collaborate with other universities, like what is done in this meeting, so that both parties can exchange knowledge and experience to improve the quality of education. The hope is that this collaboration will benefit both institutions significantly and enrich the teaching and learning experience at the higher education level.
