TANGERANG – Reintroducing Indonesian food and drinks, the Faculty of Hospitality, Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), and guest lectures from the Food & Beverage (F&B) Department of the Dharmawangsa Jakarta Hotel held a school visit and demonstration program. This event was held in Building D of the hospitality faculty of UMN on Tuesday (10/5/2022).
This event was held to introduce students to hotels, Indonesian culture, spark students’ interest in the internal program at Hotel Dharmawangsa Jakarta, and reintroduce Indonesian food and drinks that students might forget.

UMN is one of the educational institutions included in the school visit cooperation program under the guidance of the Dharmawangsa Hotel Jakarta – the Marriott Hotel Group.
“Looking at the post-pandemic term phenomenon, when the pandemic began to decline slowly, the hotel industry also started to get back on its feet. So yeah, let’s go!! We’re going back to schools,” Romario Garcia, the Training Manager of the Dharmawangsa Hotel Jakarta and the Marriott Hotel Group, said.
The school visit program was welcomed enthusiastically and positively by UMN hospitality students. The program has three main events: presentations about the Dharmawangsa hotel and the Marriott Hotel Group, a cooking demonstration of the Grilled Honey, Iga Bakar Manado Cuisine, and the Wedang Martini Drink. Three guest lecturers who also work at the Dharmawangsa Jakarta Hotel were also invited, namely, Romario Garcia (Training Manager), Ignatius Julio (Exc. Sous Chef), and Purnomo Suhadi (Food & Beverage Manager Hotel Dharmawangsa).

Romario opened the school visit by presenting about brands, luxury, the 5 star, 4 star, 3 star theory, and the reality of working at the Dharmawangsa Jakarta hotel and the Marriott Hotel Group.
“In this event, we teach the necessary knowledge and skills from hotels, especially regarding our Indonesian culture,” Romario said.
Julio continued the presentation and sharing session. He conducted a cooking demonstration, making honey-grilled ribs and Manado grilled ribs. After the food demonstration, it was Purnomo’s turn to demonstrate making wedang martini, an Indonesian beverage. The two interactive demo sessions received lots of enthusiasm from UMN hospitality students.
Closing the event, Romario expressed his hopes that in the future, UMN students would have more interest in working in luxury hotels such as the Dharmawangsa Hotel.
“Maybe in the future, we can find more interns in luxury hotels and the Food & Beverage department. Because we see a lot of interest in culinary, but not in F&B. Because of the stigma that working in F&B is just working as a waiter, server, or hostess. In reality, there are baristas, bars, which is rarely promoted by the hotel to their students,” he concluded.
