JAKARTA – Visual Communication Design (VCD) student of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) named Veronica (class of 2020), won the 4th Best title at the Regional Level of Selection of National Outstanding Students (Pemilihan Mahasiswa Berprestasi Nasional/PILMAPRES), of the Higher Education Service Institution (Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi/LLDikti) Region III for the year 2023. She is entitled to advance to the National Level. The award was given on Tuesday (9/5/2023) at Prasetiya Mulya University, Cilandak campus.
The Student Achievement Selection is a student talent and competition event under the auspices of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology. It aims to appreciate the best people in higher education and make them agents of change in building a better Indonesia.
Participants in this competition consist of students from Academic Universities and Vocational Universities. UMN is one of the universities that sent their best students to this event.
The organization of the selection of outstanding students began with a college-level selection and continued with a regional-level selection. A total of 20 finalists passed the desk evaluation, consisting of 12 students from Academic Universities and 8 from Vocational Universities. All finalists entered the final regional selection stage with an assessment of superior achievements, creative ideas, and English language skills.
On the night of the Awarding of PILMAPRES Regional Level in 2023, there were 10 students, with each category of 5 people from academic universities and 5 people from vocational universities. Those who excel in the LLDikti Region III environment have been selected and will compete nationally.
In her speech, the Head of LLDikti Region III, Paristiyanti Nurwardani, said that students, as future leaders of Indonesia, should not only have skills and knowledge. But also have hard and soft skills align with the Independent Learning Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka/MBKM) Policy.
“So, students not only excel in academics but become individuals who are creative, innovative, competitive, and have character,” Paris said.
After participating in a series of activities and selection, the participants will be given further debriefing in actualizing themselves. Participants can hone their skills, and this event provides an opportunity for students to meet from various public and private universities in a healthy competitive manner.
According to UMN Internal Student Affairs Student Development Division staff Andri Seto Baskoro, who also attended the event, UMN chose Veronica after 6 semesters of looking into students’ progress and achievements.
Veronica has many achievements like getting 1st place in the Banten Province Language Ambassador 2021, 1st place in the National Language Ambassador 2021, qualifying for the selection of IISMA 2022 participants and leaving for Rome-Italy for the Student Exchange program, and being actively involved in many committee activities on and off campus.
“Our representative selection mechanism is adjusted to the initial selection at the LLDIKTI III regional level, where the assessment is carried out on the aspects of ‘Creative Ideas’ and ‘Excellent Achievements,’” Seto said.

Interviewed separately, Veronica shared her preparation for this selection by making a “Creative Idea” script related to the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Sustainable Development Goals, making a recap of “Excellent Achievements,” which explains the achievements achieved through an English presentation video. All completed files were submitted to the regional selection file.
“Thank God I passed the desk evaluation and was called to advance to the offline regional selection at Prasmul University Cilandak on May 9, 2023. In the regional selection stage, there were 12 excellent students from each campus who entered this stage,” Veronica said.
Veronica initiated a program called SekolahPuan, a chatbot-based learning platform where users can learn several learning and self-development materials. There will also be a lot of educational information on the platform, such as scholarship information and others.
Veronica explained that she is passionate about gender equality and education issues, as evidenced by her previous achievements related to literacy at Duta Bahasa in 2021. Then in 2022, while at IISMA, she learned much about Gender and Society. Therefore, she is very interested and passionate about realizing gender equality in Indonesia.
Veronica faced many challenges during this selection because she had to compete with top students from other campuses. So she had to strategize to stand out.
On May 16-17, 2023, a briefing was held for Outstanding Students (Mahasiswa Berprestasi/Mapres) who qualified for the national stage, and the event was held in Bandung.
“I was very happy when it was announced that I had qualified for the national stage, because finally UMN could get the Best title again in the Regional Pilmapres. And I can also get acquainted with friends from region IV and friends from various campuses,” Veronica said.
Veronica hopes to focus more on not winning but giving her best and networking with other outstanding students. Because she believes the learning process in Pilmapres is precious.
“My achievement can only be an achievement when it is useful for others. So I really want to benefit the people around me,” she said.
The judges consisting of six experts in their fields, will assess the participants. They are Prof. Teddy Mantoro from Sampoerna University, Prof. Dr. Suswandari M. Pd from Prof. Dr. Hamka Muhammadiyah University, Dr. Wahyu Hariadji from Bina Nusantara University, Dr. Tipri Rose Kartika, S.E., M.M. from Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif Jakarta, Dr.rer.pol.Ied Veda R Sitepu from Universitas Kristen Indonesia, and Dora Angelina Aruan, S.Pd., M.Hum. from Unika Atma Jaya.
