TANGERANG – Students of visual communication design (DKV) study program of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) Ryan Sucipto were selected as leaders for Banten province in the World Cleanup Day (WCD) 2018 event, namely as the coordinator of Public Relations and National Marketing of the event. In addition, Ryan also got the opportunity as a speaker to explain about national marketing and Wilah card games.
Wilah is a card game aimed at children to provide education about garbage sorting. The idea came about after he saw how people in the countryside throw garbage in any place when the garbage can be recycled into compost, crafts and others.
“Finally I realized that the garbage problem was due to a bad culture and lack of education. Finally I tried to make a garbage sorting education card, and this became a project that I offered in my final task project, “said Ryan.
Education in children has been Ryan’s focus for a long time. DKV students interested in Interactive Media Design established a social community called Social Designee which aims to foster a sense of social care for students through social activities, especially in children. Social Designee conducts social activities using creativity because according to its founder, interesting learning media can help children to learn faster.
“Because visuals can help children to learn faster than just writing. Over time we began to develop various educational learning media that are fun and creative for children, “explained Ryan as the founder of Social Designee.
In addition to using creativity for learning media, this value also began to be applied to children’s mindset when doing social activities. For example, the social project that Ryan won at the Kompas Corner Social Project Competition in 2016 and 2018. In 2016, Ryan created a social project under the name Keren Village Children (Village Children Know Creativity and Art). In short, this project hones children’s creativity by drawing from readings such as Bobo Magazine and Kompas Newspaper. In 2018, Ryan won the race again by creating an edutainment project that teaches problem solving and innovation.
Not only active on campus, Ryan has also been a speaker at several events to share experiences, education, increase social care, and how to carry out social action. According to him, the first capital to do activities is not to be afraid of being wrong.
“Don’t be afraid of being wrong. I was the first time I made a lot of social issues. People don’t believe in me,” Ryan said.
By becoming the leader for Banten province in the World Cleanup Day event, Ryan plans to hold a joint clean-up event on September 15, 2018 involving one million people. Although it is not easy, he believes if the project can be realized it will have a big impact on Banten Province. (*/CRA)
