Tangerang – Recently, one of UMN’s strategic communication students was selected as one of the delegates from Indonesia for the Asia World Model United Nations X event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 200 delegates from 27 countries attended the conference. This year, Asia World Model United Nations X raised the theme “Shaping Our Role in the 5th Industrial Revolution.”
Florence Agatha, a UMN student majoring in Communication Strategy, class of 2022, succeeded in becoming one of the delegates at the Asia World Model United Nations X event. Asia World Model United Nations is a simulation conference of the United Nations session under the auspices of the International Global Network. On this occasion, Florence attended Asia World Model United Nations X in February 2025.
“For the selection process, I went through the essay route, where I shared my experience in public speaking, negotiation skills, and diplomatic roles that I have held. After graduating, I did not remain silent– I immediately sought financial support to represent Indonesia and compete at the international event in Malaysia,” Florence said.
Florence expressed her pleasure in receiving much support from the Mayor of South Tangerang, Saestu Batik Designers, and UMN staff and lecturers.
“The UMN campus has played a big role in paving the way and supporting my international self-development,” Florence said.

During the conference, Florence actively participated in activities ranging from discussions, negotiations, and lobbying between countries. Florence formed a large block with other delegates and countries and drafted a major resolution.
“With intense cooperation and communication, the resolution we proposed was finally approved by 56 of the 60 countries present. For me, this is a proud achievement and a testament to the power of international collaboration,” Florence continued.
Florence shared that her experience in the Asia World Model United Nations X event was very valuable. Florence learned a lot from global diplomacy, leadership, multicultural situations, and the importance of an active voice in shaping change.

“I took a Global Communication class at UMN, my lecturer, Ujang Rusdianto, introduced the concept of Model United Nations. He also invited our class to attend a seminar featuring Indonesian diplomats in Australia. Then, I delved into research on Model United Nations and wrote a passionate essay,” said Florence.
Florence’s experience in the Asia World Model United Nations was not just an experience, but the beginning of a long journey for Florence to continue learning, connecting, and contributing to the global sphere.
