National news media, Media Indonesia, visited Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) on Friday, February 23, 2023. The visit is a form of cooperation between the two parties that have been established for a long time.
Media Indonesia News Director, Ade Alawi, said that in addition to the relationship between media groups, UMN is the pioneer of the Online Scholarship Competition (OSC), a collaborative program with medcom.id.
“Media Indonesia has a journalist who graduated from UMN. His name is Putra Ananda. His performance is extraordinary, and the way he writes news is incredible. If live streaming, Putra can present it smoothly. Therefore, UMN is the right university to visit,” Ade said.
Several writers from UMN also write for the Media Indonesia Muda rubric. Media Indonesia hopes outstanding students at UMN can inspire media readers in Indonesia.
Through the visit, Media Indonesia wants to conduct in-depth cooperation on the diversity of media content in Indonesia, especially in public communication strategies. UMN has seasoned sources for such studies.

UMN’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Ika Yanuarti, offers several activities/programs that Media Indonesia can access, such as seminars, internships, and full-time jobs. There are also the “job hire” and “campus hiring” programs. The Career Development Center (CDC) is ready to help Media Indonesia recruit UMN students. However, there is reciprocity in the form of scholarships from Media Indonesia.
“Besides the CDC, Student Development also coordinates students, such as the Student Executive Board and the Student Organizations, to create Media Indonesia events in UMN. Thus, we can train students’ hard skills and soft skills,” Ika said.
Head of UMN’s Journalism Study Program, Samiaji Bintang Nusantara, said that lecturers encourage students to take part (in the industry) before and after graduation. As much as possible, the study program designs the curriculum adjusting to the times and the media industry.
“Through the concept of experiential and experimental learning, we encourage courses that are definitely useful for students, such as data journalism and audio storytelling,” Bintang said.

This year, Media Indonesia was able to receive visits from students after the pandemic. This allows students to learn about how television and digital media work.
In addition to opening a discussion forum, Media Indonesia had the opportunity to tour the UMN campus. Furthermore, UMN and Media Indonesia can have more in-depth meetings so that the collaboration can be well operationalized.
“Thank you to Media Indonesia for staying in touch with UMN. Our hands are open to declare what UMN can do for mutual progress. Let’s keep in touch and help each other,” UMN Rector, Ninok Leksono, said.
