UMN Partners with Fortinet, Encouraging a Cybersecurity-Savvy Generation

TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) collaborated with a global cybersecurity company, Fortinet, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday (12/6).

The skill gap is one of the causes of rampant violations in the field of cybersecurity. Dean of UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., said that this initiative (to collaborate) could be a potential for both UMN students and lecturers to become proficient in cybersecurity.

“[This collaboration] is very much received with open arms because there are many things we can work on and develop together later,” Niki said.

In addition to career opportunities, Fortinet is also committed to providing cybersecurity training and certification to UMN. This collaboration opens up opportunities for UMN’s academic community to get Network Security Expert (NSE) Level 4 certification for free.

“We provide [the certification] for free to everyone as long as they still use the umn.ac.id email id,” said Fortinet Indonesia Country Director Edwin Lim.

Edwin also hopes that this collaboration will not only stop at “ceremonies” but also be able to produce students who are literate in cybersecurity. This is one of Fortinet’s missions. “Because we have sold a lot. We also want people to operate with us,” Edwin said.

This collaboration will complement the learning about cybersecurity that already exists in UMN’s Informatics Study Program. This learning will be further developed through the synergy of the Fortinet and UMN curriculums.
