March 9, 2023Tangerang – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) is deeply committed to supporting national and regional initiatives that protect the lives of people in South Lebak, a region at high risk of tsunami. UMN’s dedication to safety and disaster preparedness has led to its involvement in the National Tsunami-Ready Board, where representatives Mr. Irwan Fakhruddin and Ms. Maria Advenita have been serving since February 2023. Their contributions and expertise are vital to ongoing efforts in building resilient communities and reducing risks in case of a tsunami.
UMN’s participation in the Tsunami-Ready Board is more than just a formal role—it’s a proactive approach to fostering partnerships with organizations focused on disaster preparedness. Through this role, UMN is actively expanding collaborations with groups such as UNESCO, the South Lebak Mitigation Group, local NGOs, and universities in the region. These partnerships aim to create a network of committed institutions, sharing resources, conducting research, and exchanging best practices to collectively ensure a safer and more disaster-ready community.
UMN, alongside its partners, is undertaking various impactful initiatives to boost local preparedness. These include community-focused educational programs, IoT-based tsunami alert systems, and research projects that integrate local wisdom and traditions. These initiatives are designed to actively engage residents in vulnerable areas, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively during emergencies. The introduction of IoT technology, enabling real-time tsunami alerts, demonstrates UMN’s commitment to leveraging innovative, data-driven solutions that can save lives.
Through extensive research, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, UMN is dedicated to fostering a safer future for the South Bayah community, empowering local residents to be better equipped to handle the challenges posed by natural disasters.
