October 9, 2024TANGERANG—On September 17, 2024, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) hosted an online welcoming briefing for the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) Italy with the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy. Various UMN representatives, IISMA representatives, and the awardees attended the briefing.
IISMA is a scholarship program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia that allows students to spend one semester at an overseas partner university to study and experience the host country’s culture. Students will collaborate with people of various backgrounds, learn from industry experts, enhance their skills, and contribute to preserving Indonesia’s unique culture.
“We are very proud and happy to be able to meet you guys here. We want to say congratulations and thank you for making this event go by smoothly. Also to the awardees we love and are proud of,” Prof. Dr. Muliawati G. Siswanto, M.Eng.Sc., UMN Vice-Rector for Relations and Cooperation, said.
Ir. Andi Rahadiyan Wijaya, IISMA Program Operations Manager also gave his speech. He shared that this year, IISMA is sending many students to Italy. 128 students attend various universities and cities in Italy, such as Sapienza, Pisa, Milan, and Siena.
“Since the IISMA program started in 2021, Italy has always been our partner. We are grateful to KBRI for facilitating us so the students can study there,” Andi said. He hopes this welcoming briefing will help awardees who will soon fly to Italy understand what it is like to study, live in Italy, and be safe from rampant pickpockets.
“I believe you (the awardees) will be successful and able to bring benefits and blessings to your friends and our nation. You will return with richer experience and skills, so you can create a positive contribution when returning back to Indonesia,” Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Suning Kusumawardani, Director of Learning and Student Affairs, said, adding to the opening speech session.
After the opening speeches, a Q&A session was conducted, led by Boby Arinto, S.E., M.M., ELT, the Manager of the UMN Global Office, and Gilang Gumilar, from Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia/KBRI) Rome.
The Q&A session includes information about KBRI Rome’s role and the services they provide for awardees, tips on handling documents in a country with many pickpocketers, what Italian people are like, how safe the country is, using public transportation, food prices, weather conditions, tips to adapt in Italy, and more.
“The format of studying in Italy is different than Indonesia’s. You may experience some culture shocks, but use this opportunity to grow, learn, and be proactive. Please also be involved in KBRI and PPI events in Italy,” Gilang said. He also challenges the awardees to increase Indonesia’s brand awareness in the eyes of Italian and other foreign students.
“Be the ambassador of Indonesia. Promote the greatness and culture of Indonesia. Do positive things, be alert when going outside, and add value to your journey for a better future,” Gilang said.
