Tangerang—The animated film Jumbo has recently become a hot topic of conversation in Indonesian society due to the success of its story and animation. One of UMN’s own film alumni was involved in making the film, and one of the works of UMN Film alumni also made the alma mater and Indonesia proud.
Novi Puspa Sari is a UMN Film alumni of the class of 2014. The animated film “Jumbo” was directed by Ryan Adriandhy, and Novi was one of the producers of this animated film. The Jumbo animated film has been worked on for almost five years and involved 400 Indonesian creators. “Jumbo” will be the first Indonesian animated film to reach more than one million viewers in its first week and will be broadcast globally in 17 countries.
“This movie started with the idea of making an animated movie that can be enjoyed by all groups, children, adults, parents, and the whole family. With that vision, we developed the story, built the team, and started production five years ago to produce a movie with a relevant and warm story,” Novi said.
Novi wants the audience to get a different impression and message, not just an entertaining animated movie. This animated movie, “Jumbo,” intends to provide meaning and warmth for the audience, which is relevant for all Indonesian families.

“While studying at UMN, I learned a lot about storytelling, and this has become my provision while working and developing my skills in the creative and film industry,” Novi continued.
Novi’s journey to producing the animated film “Jumbo” was long but an extraordinary and valuable experience. Novi also added that this animated film could be realized through collective work and collaboration with love from all creators involved.
“Hopefully, JUMBO can be a movie that everyone can enjoy and become a milestone for the Indonesian animation industry to be seen and appreciated nationally and internationally. In addition, it also opens up more opportunities for local creators to work not only in their own country but even abroad,” Novi said.
Novi advised to keep dreaming and not be afraid of failure. Work that is done wholeheartedly and with love will yield proud results.
