Tangerang – Sanitation and hygiene are vital for ensuring human health and well-being. Through our community service programs, UMN offers training to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene practices. These efforts aim to create healthier and more resilient communities, ultimately improving overall public health.
On Sunday, July 30, 2023, lecturers and students from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) conducted a training session on product diversification and hygienic sanitation in Serdang Wetan Village, Tangerang Regency. This initiative supports the growth and development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under BUMDes Serdang Tirta Kencana, particularly those engaged in culinary businesses. Yoanita Alexandra, S.E., B.A., M.Par., the head of the PKM team, explained that the training focused on enhancing the knowledge and skills of MSME participants, emphasizing culinary product diversification and hygienic practices to boost productivity.
The training was attended by 15 MSME owners from the culinary sector. The PKM team included UMN lecturers such as Dinar Ajeng Kristiyanti, S.Kom., M.Kom. from the Information Systems program, and Ringkar Situmorang, Ph.D. from the Hospitality program, alongside several students from both programs. Yoanita emphasized that the program aimed to inspire MSMEs and contribute to the development of local businesses.
This activity not only promotes health but also maintains good nutrition in food, which is essential for the growth and development of the community. By equipping local entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge, UMN is fostering a healthier environment that supports the well-being of the entire community. Read more here.
In line with its mission to improve access to basic services for all, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) also collaborated with SMKN 1 Tangerang to conduct a comprehensive training session focused on food safety and personal hygiene. Held in November 2023 and attended by 61 participants, the training emphasized essential practices necessary for preventing foodborne illnesses and fostering safe, healthy environments. The curriculum covered critical topics such as proper food handling, contamination prevention, personal hygiene techniques, and the importance of sanitation in food preparation areas. By incorporating practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, participants gained hands-on experience and knowledge that they can apply in their daily lives, particularly in food-related settings.
This initiative underscores UMN’s commitment to enhancing community health and safety through educational outreach. By involving students, local residents, and food service operators, UMN aims to build foundational knowledge that strengthens the overall health service landscape in Tangerang. The training not only provides immediate benefits to participants but also creates a ripple effect of awareness and improved practices throughout the community. As participants implement the knowledge gained, they contribute to a culture of safety and hygiene, ultimately leading to better public health outcomes and an improved quality of life for all residents. This program exemplifies UMN’s dedication to creating sustainable, healthy communities by ensuring that basic services, such as food safety, are accessible and prioritized.
