May 17, 2022TANGERANG – The British Council Indonesia has chosen Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) as a Venue Partner for the IELTS examinations. To officialize the collaboration, a signing was done at the UMN campus on Tuesday (10/05/22). The signing is represented by Dr. Ninok Leksono, the Rector of UMN, and Mr. Hugh Moffatt, the Country Director of British Council Indonesia.
Other UMN and the British Council Indonesia representatives were also present to support this collaboration. From the British Council Indonesia, there were: James Rene Cleere, the Chairman of the British Council Indonesia Foundation; Jefri Budianto, the Secretary of the Chairman of the British Council Indonesia Foundation; Kishore Roy, the Regional Exams Manager South East Asia of the British Council Indonesia; and Farida Limbong, Senior Exams Business Development Manager of the British Council Indonesia Foundation.
Meanwhile, from UMN, the ones present were: Dr. Frisca Natalia, the Vice-Chancellor of Academics; Ir. Andrey Andoko, the Vice-Chancellor of General Administration; Ika Yanuarti, the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Muliawati G. Siswanto, the Vice-Chancellor of Relations and Cooperation; Dr. Ir. P.M. Winarno, the Director of the Institute for Research and Community Service; Arief Setyadi, GM Marketing and Business Development; Boby Arinto, the Manager of Global Office; and staffs of Continuing Education Department (CED) UMN.
“With The British Council Indonesia choosing UMN as their venue partner, participants in and around the Tangerang Regency can now do their IELTS examinations at the UMN campus,” Johannes T. Boro, the Manager of CED UMN, said during an interview.
The British Council is an international organization engaged in education, cultural relations, and is a registered charity based in the United Kingdom (UK). They are currently working in over 100 countries, including Indonesia, with “the British Council Indonesia.”

One of the services they provide and even co-own is the IELTS examination. Quoting the IELTS website, “IELTS was one of the pioneers of four skills English language testing over 25 years ago and continues to set the standard for English language testing today. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English.”
Most companies and institutions require English proficiency examinations. IELTS is one of the most recognized English assessments globally. UMN students who wish to get a professional English language assessment can soon take their examinations on campus.
“The first IELTS test is scheduled for mid-June 2022. Registration will be done through the British Council Indonesia website, starting mid-May 2022,” Johannes said.
UMN becoming a Venue Partner for the IELTS examinations is just the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between UMN and The British Council Indonesia. Mr. Hugh and Dr. Ninok agreed in their remarks that if the opportunity arises, other kinds of collaborations in the near future can be done.
