JAKARTA—Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) is one of the Indonesian private universities involved in Monash University, Indonesia’s University Partnership Program. To celebrate and spread the good news, UMN, Monash University Indonesia, and several other Indonesian private universities held a press conference at the Pullman Hotel, Thamrin, on August 14, 2024.
Monash University is Australia’s largest university, with almost 80,000 students and over 500,000 alumni. It is now one of the top 50 universities globally, ranked 37th in the QS University ranking and 35th in the US News and World Report’s best university rankings.
Its global presence is indisputable. Monash University’s branch in Indonesia and now, its collaboration with various private universities will certainly benefit Indonesia’s education ecosystem.
The press conference was attended by various representatives from Monash University, Indonesia and the nine university partners: UMN, Universitas Bunda Mulia, Universitas Ciputra, Universitas Atma Jaya, Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Universitas Kristen Petra, Universitas Pelita Harapan, Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, and Pradita University.
“Today marks another important milestone. A pivotal moment in Monash University’s journey to make what I hope is a lasting and impactful contribution to higher education in Indonesia. I am truly excited about the possibilities and opportunities these partnerships that awe are launching today present,” Matthew Nicholson, Pro Vice-Chancellor & President of Monash University Indonesia, said, welcoming all attendees.

This partnership is designed to pave pathways to the future by enhancing access to and the quality of higher education. University partners will receive various benefits, such as direct entry and scholarships for the university partner students into Master’s programs at Monash University, Indonesia, PhD scholarships for university partner lecturers, opportunities for potential research collaborations, and more.

Supporting The Golden Indonesia 2045 Through The Strategic Alliance
A Q&A session was conducted to discuss the partnerships and its benefits. Various questions were asked centered on Golden Indonesia 2045 (Indonesia Emas 2045). Monash University, Indonesia, as a campus dedicated to Indonesia and Indonesians, certainly supports Golden Indonesia 2045.
“The Golden Indonesia 2045 plan is predicated on the development of outstanding human capital, and that development requires educational innovation and excellence. The strategic alliances we form today are about developing educational innovation, knowledge sharing, and research excellence throughout the higher education ecosystem here in Indonesia. We are very proud to be contributing here to Indonesia,” Matthew said.
“Monash University has educated more Indonesians than any other universities outside Indonesia; it is not something we take lightly. It is a true responsibility to be the first foreign university established here,” Matthew added. The partnership will not only contribute to improving higher education for Indonesians but also to capital development, which will solve national and global problems.

UMN, as an Indonesian campus dedicated to educating and supporting the nation’s children, also supports Golden Indonesia 2045, one of which is through this partnership with Monash University, Indonesia.
“We are pleased to be here. UMN has always moved towards becoming an international-standard university, and one way is by collaborating with a university like Monash University, Indonesia. We’re happy to have the opportunity to collaborate in the field of education and research. We hope this collaboration is long-lasting and sustainable. God bless us all,” Muliawati said.
Previously, UMN personally met and officially formalized their collaboration with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing on June 28th, 2024 (read the article here). It is hoped that through this collaboration with Monash University, Indonesia, UMN students and staff can get the best education and programs, becoming golden talents for Indonesia and beyond.
