The inauguration ceremony went smoothly, and the Rector and Vice-Rectors then delivered speeches that emphasized their commitment and outlined the responsibilities they would carry out in this leadership period. One significant change is the elimination of the Institute for Research and Community Service, where the role is now directly held by the Vice-Rector.
This change reflects UMN’s focus on increasing research productivity, innovation, and publications as part of efforts to improve its global reputation through QS rankings and other accreditation indicators.
In addition, UMN emphasizes the importance of sustainability, which is marked by the establishment of the Center for Sustainability. This department is expected to strengthen cooperation with foreign universities that have a similar vision and with companies and NGOs to support sustainability programs through external funding.
Prof. Dr. Florentina Kurniasari, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Sustainability, emphasized the importance of sustainable development as the main pillar in campus progress. Research conducted at UMN is expected to impact society, industry, and Indonesia positively.
“We hope that lecturers can increase their academic rank. The success of this program is highly dependent on the research ecosystem at UMN, where the entire academic community is expected to actively participate in building a research culture. We also plan to strengthen collaboration with partners from various sectors, including government, industry, and domestic and foreign universities,” Florentina said.
UMN is committed to building a research culture based on cross-disciplinary collaboration. With a focus on research, innovation, and sustainability, UMN hopes to produce technology-based innovations and creativity, especially in the creative digital field, to support the green industry and society’s welfare.
UMN continues to realize the development of sustainable science and technology by integrating sustainability principles in research and innovation. This is expected to make a real contribution to sustainable development. By building a collaborative research ecosystem with academics, industry, government, and society, UMN is optimistic that it can reach higher levels.
Improving the quality of research certainly cannot be realized instantly. The entire UMN academic community must continuously work on this challenge. With the spirit of innovation and cooperation, UMN is determined to achieve a World-Class University through Excellent Teaching and Strong Research.
