TANGERANG – Two UMN Architecture students won several competitions at the VII International Design Festival “Red Prospec” 2023, held by Novosibirsk State University, Russia.
This international festival brings together young professionals from leading educational institutions in Russia and abroad. Starting from Russia, Indonesia, China, Japan, Cairo, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, to Armenia.
Chairperson of UMN’s Architecture Study Program Irma Desiyana, S.Ars., M.Arch, admitted that she was proud and surprised by the achievements of UMN Architecture students in the competition. Moreover, this competition brought together participants from various backgrounds. She said the Architecture Study Program would continue supporting other students in various competitions.
“The Architecture Study Program always encourages students to participate actively and confidently in competitions. UMN is also always supportive, from competition registration fees to awards for those who win the competition,” Irma said.
There are several competitions at this international festival, such as graphic design, architectural environment design, aesthetic and technical design projects, accessories and footwear design, and costume design.
UMN 2020 Architecture student Jason Alif Purnawan 2020 is one of two UMN students who won first place in the architectural environment design competition category. He was nominated for “Light Design in the Urban Environment.”
In this competition, Jason presented an architectural design derived from the “Architectural Design 4” course project in UMN’s Architecture Study Program in the 5th semester. His architectural design focuses on the development of integrated areas, especially in the commercial aspect. Not only does it carry the concept of urban development integrated with the transportation system, but Jason’s work also offers other uniqueness.
“[This work] also tries to make the area a transitional area between residential and commercial areas without forgetting the sustainability aspects in it,” Jason explained.
Besides Jason, Jesse Jane also won in the graphic design and communication competition category “Cultdigital.” The 2020 Architecture student won 3rd place.

Jesse admits that the work submitted in this competition is not a finished product. She had been working on the piece titled “To be Continued” since September 2018, which frustrated her. She also admitted that she was surprised that her unfinished work could also be appreciated as a work of art.
“For other people, it might be finished, but for me there is still something to add. At first I thought I wouldn’t publish this work because it wasn’t finished. Hence, the name ‘To be continued’,” Jesse said.
The work, which is categorized as fine art or art that expresses aesthetic value, focuses on texture and value. Jesse uses the concept of black and white using a pen on watercolor paper. Many people rarely use this technique.
