Tangerang – The Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) has held the Jakarta Architecture Festival (JAF 2023) from September 17 to 30, 2023. UMN’s artwork with the title “Plasti(c)ty Tree” has been selected for the JAF. This work is made from 200kg of garbage.
The collaboration between Multimedia Nusantara University, Matra Studio, Mortier, and Wing Group has produced the Plasti(c)ity Tree. This campaign aims to promote the concept of sustainability, and it is hoped that more people can recycle plastic waste more wisely. Because as we know, a lot of plastic waste just ends up in the final disposal.
“We always try to maximize waste management from WINGS Group’s business activities through various initiatives and collaborative efforts to minimize its impact on the environment. This Plasti(c)ity Tree collaboration is an effort to extend the life cycle of plastic and turn it into contemporary art. So that many people can enjoy this plastic art”, said Sheila Kansil, a representative of the WINGS Peduli Foundation (18/9).
The artwork of UMN’s collaboration with WINGS Peduli Foundation is the Plasti(c)ity Tree. This work has the meaning of depicting the transition of moving the capital city of Jakarta to the Capital City of the Archipelago (Ibu Kota Nusantara/IKN), where Jakarta is the foundation of IKN and will continue to grow and face development and social challenges.

The creation and process of the Plati(c)ity Tree was assisted by 18 students from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, namely Chaeri Abdillah, Gema Ibrahim Ahmada, Sangkakala P. Indo, Naya Kamila, Farah Artanti, Alicia Phannely, Ayu Nabilah, Shafira Ardhani, Pramudya Abimanyu, Donny Aditya Natanael, Rafa Naufal Adli, Nurul Izzah Saidah, Adetia Widiani, Helen Agustini, Theresia Winna, Christy Viani, Silvia Deborah Ulag, Wenzel Ferrel, Rapha Zakharia, Reno Alvero Soe. Also, Architecture Lecturer as project supervisor Plati(c)ity Rizki Tridamayanti Siregar.
“This collaboration was carried out two months ago. We made a concept whose installation focuses on sustainable and environmentally friendly design. I am happy to get support and support from UMN,” Rizky said in an interview.
According to him, the students are very helpful. Without the students, this project could not run smoothly, especially with the short amount of time.
“The obstacle that is felt is time. Our preparation time is only 3 weeks while there are so many processes that must be done, the most time-consuming is cleaning the used plastics, which takes 2 weeks,” Rizky continued in the interview.
Plati(c)ity’s work received a lot of support from UMN. This collaboration is expected to continue not only for this program but also in the future, where it is hoped that UMN can continue to build sustainable works.
