TANGERANG – UMN’s Tax Center, in collaboration with the Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) Banten, held an assistance for reporting the Annual Individual Income Tax Return (Surat Pemberitahuan/SPT).
The activity, which took place on February 23, involved several UMN Accounting students as tax volunteers. They were assigned to several places, such as the Tigaraksa Primary Tax Service Office, Balaraja Post, and PT EDS Manufacturing Indonesia.
“This year there are a total of 20 students participating in tax volunteers. From 2016 to 2023, the total number of students who have participated is 179,” said UMN Tax Center Chair Chermian Eforis, S.E., MBA, CPA.
Chermian revealed that this activity allows UMN Accounting students to apply what they’ve learned in their taxation courses in real life. In addition, their role as tax volunteers can hone students’ soft skills, such as communication.
“The enthusiasm of students is very high, as evidenced by their willingness to become tax volunteers between lecture breaks,” said Chermian.

Jacksen Yappinto is one of the 2020 UMN Accounting students who participated in this tax volunteer program. According to him, this activity has helped him deepen his tax knowledge.
“It’s great and exciting because you can meet [friends] from other universities,” Jacksen said.
Previously, this tax volunteer program has become a routine activity carried out by UMN’s Tax Center since 2016. This program is also a form of collaboration between UMN and the Banten DGT Regional Office since 2013.
“The [tax volunteer] program is carried out to increase taxpayer compliance and encourage the implementation of third-party involvement in taxation counseling activities,” explained the Head of KPP, Pratama Tigaraksa Widie Widayani.
Widie also revealed that she was greatly helped by the involvement of UMN students in this program– starting from conducting counselling to educating on tax return reporting for taxpayers.
