The IVLP program, initiated by the United States Department of State (US), is themed Digital Innovation for Social Good and Ethical Use of Big Data.

Lecturer of Journalism Study Program, Veronika, S.Sos., M.Si. (Doc. Veronika)
In the first city, Washington, DC, participants were brought together with several parties to learn about the US federalism system and decentralized government, the use of data to support central and local government policies, and exchange ideas with non-governmental organizations and academics in terms of data use and public access. In this city, participants can also see government buildings such as the White House, Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
The participants then moved on to Raleigh, North Carolina, known as the City of Oaks, because of its many oak trees. The city is also called the Research Triangle because there are three major universities: North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina. Here participants learned about local government policies on data collection and use. Participants also met with organizations for social change, researchers, and data analysis development.
In the third city, Chicago, Illinois, participants were invited to get to know the habits of the local community in terms of culture, arts, and sports. IVLP participants were invited to watch the musical Aladdin, learn about and watch a baseball game between the host White Sox (Chicago) and the Royals (Kansas City). Participants were also invited to learn the history of tall buildings in Chicago by going down the Chicago River.

IVLP participants met with the city government of Boise, Idaho, and learned about their data disclosure system. In this city, participants also had a discussion with a community of Indonesians who live in this city. This community is called Indo Idaho.
In addition to 23 formal meetings with government, academics, researchers, communities, and non-profit organizations, participants also had free time to visit several interesting places such as museums and city parks in the United States.
