October 16, 2023HR Gathering Activity at UMN (Doc. UMN)
Tangerang – UMN held their annual HR gathering on (12/10). The theme of the HR Gathering this time was “The Rise of AI in HR: Potential and Challenges.” 75 companies attended the event, including the UMN rectorate, study program heads, and Rainier Turangan, the principal consultant of Daya Dimensi Indonesia, as the presenter.
This year’s HR Gathering aims to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between UMN and companies and discuss exchanging ideas between companies and UMN campuses. UMN holds this gathering on an annual basis to know the developments in the industry and what needs to be prepared for students before entering the world of work.
The theme of this year’s HR gathering is AI (Artificial Intelligence). The event discusses the use and development of AI and how HR can utilize AI in their work. Because AI is one of the challenges for HR, this challenge is not to be avoided but adopted and utilized as best as possible.
“Our current challenge is technology, but we can make it a lesson. We must have the courage to learn new things that exist, and there is a willingness to continue learning and dare to leave old things. It is very important to be a long-live learner,” said Andrey Handoko at the opening of this gathering.

So, even though AI is a challenge today, both on campus and in the industry, we can adopt it and continue to adapt to meet the company’s needs. Aside from the campus, HR can also adopt this. AI in HR is technically not how to build AI but the product. HR can utilize AI as a comparison and know the skills of each employee.
AI is also divided into three, namely analytical AI, which is a very competitive AI technology; human-inspired AI, where this AI technology can know human emotions and feelings; and humanized AI, which is similar to humans and has social intelligence.
“This AI can help us see employee competence, finding the weaknesses, who, and what to improve. So, this AI can speed up HR work and help be more detailed. We can also practice and continue upskilling because there will be more challenges in the future,” said Rainier Turangan in his presentation.

AI itself will also not be able to replace the HR position. It is important for HR to continue upskilling and honing skills. If we are constantly upskilling, it is impossible that HR will be replaced. Because as HR, of course, we understand more than AI.
