TANGERANG – The Community Service Research Institute (Lembaga Penelitian Pengabdian Masyarakat/LPPM) of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) initiated a discussion activity entitled “Rembug Inovasi.” This activity took place on the UMN Campus by presenting various well-known companies and conducting discussions related to research and development.
The industry needs to continue to grow and become more complex, along with the changing times. One of the most important contributions of universities is to provide educational resources relevant to the industry’s current needs. Through a continuously updated curriculum, innovative research, and collaboration with the industry, universities can ensure that their graduates are ready to face the challenges that exist in the workplace.
As UMN does, “Rembug Inovasi” is a platform where industry and UMN can discuss the current needs of the industry. This discussion is focused on future research and innovation according to industry needs, as well as solution ideas from UMN as a higher education institution.
19 companies and the World of Business & Industry (Dunia Usaha & Dunia Industri/DUDI) attended this activity. Entering the core series, the participants were divided into several groups for a Forum Group Discussion (FGD). Each group was filled with company partners and UMN lecturers from relevant study programs. In the FGD, future potentials in research, service, and innovation were designed.
According to Dr. Ir. P.M. Winarno, M.Kom, Director of LPPM UMN, the Rembug Inovasi activity is an effort by LPPM to increase innovation in UMN by collaborating with companies.
“Business units will continue to live if there is innovation in them. Therefore, UMN wants to embrace corporate partners to create updates according to existing needs,” he said. Dr. Winarno added that companies need large capital for a research team when they want to conduct Research and Development (R&D). Therefore, UMN is here to provide a forum for discussion that can benefit both parties.
UMN Rector Dr. Ninok Leksono, M.A., also welcomed this activity in his speech. Dr. Ninok said that Indonesia is one of the countries with the lowest innovation rate, one of which is due to mentality.
“The desire for renewal is a difficult thing. Sometimes, it arises but disappears again. Therefore, I am happy about this activity. Hopefully, this will be a good step toward future development,” Dr. Ninok said.
The meeting generated a variety of collaborative project ideas that have the potential to be implemented together. The results of the FGD showed six potential collaborative project ideas.
“Despite no definite final result, this meeting has formed a solid foundation for sustainable cooperation. This discussion will continue regularly, and we will contact the companies periodically in the hope of formulating further action plans,” concluded Dimas Adi Saputra, the organizer of the Rembug Inovasi activity.
