TANGERANG – The Film Study Program and Faculty of Engineering and Informatics of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) received a grant from Indonesia’s State Property Manager (Barang Milik Negara/BMN). The BMN manager provided tools and equipment for the development of Virtual Reality, technology-based Film as a teaching and training materials for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Soon enough, other tools will be provided, such as a 360-degree camera, Notebook/Laptop, Tripod, microphone, etc.
The grant handover event was held on Tuesday (7/12/2021) in the Melawai-UMN room. Several people attended the event, namely: Kus Sudarsono (the Head of the UMN Film Study Program), Niki Prastomo (the Dean of FTI UMN), Ikhwan Ciptadi (Head of Subdivision of Accounting and Reporting at BMN), Randika Pratama Wibisono (Accounting Manager at BMN), Akit Subagja (Financial Manager at BMN), and Rendy Bagus P (Financial Manager at BMN).
The TVET System Reform (TSR) program is a joint effort between the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation and the Collaboration of German Development through GIZ, with full support from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Ministry of National Development Planning, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This program is expected to support the key elements of the Government of Indonesia’s aim for reformation in the TVET sector. The TVET system must be developed to meet the demands of the future labor market. This program acts as one way to improve the quality and flexibility of teaching and learning at TVET institutions by digitizing education and training materials also utilizing technology-based media/learning models.
Vocational education requires face-to-face meetings for practicals. However, due to the pandemic, alternative learning methods are needed to reduce physical contact where students wouldn’t be required to physically be in a certain place to learn about certain equipment. Hence, using Virtual Reality or 360-degree video can be an alternative learning medium.

“In terms of vocational education, UMN takes the role of being able to prepare learning materials or learning media facilities. So, this grant will be used for the development of the modules and for us to move into that direction (Virtual Reality). There are also other options; because this grant is not only for UMN, but for Vocational High Schools (VHS) too. UMN can also take part in training VHS teachers with the tools donated, and students can later be involved in the community service programs for those teachers. They can also be involved in academic research with lecturers there,” Kus Sudarsono explained.
The compiling and filling out of the long grant form is a collaboration between the Film Study Program and FTI. FTI will carry out the coding competence of the learning program. At the same time, the Film Study Program will participate in the design and visualization process.
“UMN’s success in obtaining this grant is hoped to encourage lecturers and students’ enthusiasm and performance to continue innovating in terms of teaching, research, and community service, both within the study program and across faculties. Furthermore, it is hoped that it can be used in activities related to the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program later,” Niki Prastomo said.
