JAKARTA – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) officially collaborates with the Directorate General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This collaboration aims to optimize the Boarding School Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi Pesantren) program with the Education Fund Management Institution (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan/LPDP) in the form of implementing the Islamic Boarding School Multimedia Training program (Pelatihan Multimedia Pesantren). The signing of the MoU was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, represented by the UMN Rector and the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Diniyah Education and Ma’han Aly, on Monday (15/1/2024).
Since society is in an era of technological transformation, the cooperation program between both parties was carried out to open and develop a digitalization space for the santri (a devout Muslim student at a Muslim school).
The Director General of Islamic Education, Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Ali Ramdhani, enthusiastically welcomed this collaboration. He hopes this collaboration can open more digitalization opportunities for Islamic boarding schools, especially those involved in the Islamic Boarding School Independence program, which has reached 2000 Islamic boarding schools. The Director General feels that it is essential to increase competitiveness, and one of the strategic steps is to improve multimedia capabilities. Therefore, collaboration with UMN is considered the right step to realize this improvement.
Responding to this, UMN Rector Dr. Ninok Leksono stated he was ready to welcome the students. As the host, he opens the broadest possible opportunities for anyone who wants to study at UMN. He hopes that UMN can become a university that provides tangible benefits to the surrounding environment.
“Universities must be relevant to their environment. We at UMN affirm the principle that every academic activity must respond to the community’s needs. The existence of this program makes us even more eager to make a real contribution to society,” Ninok said.
A total of 72 students will participate in the Islamic Boarding School Independence program, which will be held for one month. The program is planned to start on January 22, 2024. In the training, the students will be taught directly by lecturers and practitioners at UMN.
“We entrust 72 students with the hope that they can develop more optimally, efficiently, and effectively. This is part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs breakdown related to digital transformation. The direction is transforming ummah services,” said Prof. Dr. H. Waryono Abdul Ghafur, M.Ag as Plt. Director of Pendidikan Diniyah and Pondok Pesantren.
Interviewed separately, UMN’s CED Manager, Johannes T. Boro, said four areas of multimedia training will be provided. The four fields are graphic design, videography, social media marketing, and web programming. He hopes that through this training, the students can return to their respective Islamic boarding schools to become inspirers and implementers of development for the Islamic boarding schools and their surroundings. He also said this program will be monitored and evaluated regularly for growth in the next stage.
