TANGERANG – The design work of UMN Architecture students, “SaMen,” won third place at the prestigious ARCH:ID 2023 architecture event on Wednesday (19/3).
Previously, the “SaMen” architecture design was also selected as one of the 10 best works exhibited in ARCH:ID 2023 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, on March 16-19, 2023. During this exhibition, they presented the “SaMen” design to professional architectural judges.
“We are very happy. We are proud that our design made it to the best three at a national level throughout Indonesia,” said Alicia, one of the team’s representatives.
The UMN Architecture student team consists of Alicia Roselle Tabrani, Rafael Cornelius, Maria Elizabeth Nadi, Evlin Febrica Karnoto, Marvelly Audrey, and Jesse Jane. Through this achievement, they learned to be more sensitive to the design context and the needs of society. They also hope the “SaMen” design can be realized as a proposal for UMN campus facilities.
“From ‘SaMen,’ we hope to continue this design principle so that we can continue to provide contextual and useful designs for the community,” Alicia said.
The UMN Architecture student team also competed with architecture students from all over Indonesia to reach this position. ARCH:ID is a prestigious annual international architecture conference and exhibition. The event was initiated by the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) and PT Citra Inovasi Strategi Exhibition.

The term “SaMen” is no stranger to UMN’s academic community. SaMen stands for “Samping UMN,” meaning “Beside UMN,” which is often a space for social interaction with people outside the campus area, such as street food vendors and online taxi drivers. This inspired the design of “SaMen,” which is designed as a portable public space to accommodate comfortable social interaction.
