September 22, 2015What’s At Miss UMN Quarantine 2015
October 5, 2015The ability of the unique new media tower of Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) in cutting energy use has reached the ears of Architecture students from Muhammadiyah Kendari University, Southeast Sulawesi. They then decided to visit and learn the concept used by the New Media Tower.
In a fieldwork study visit on Tuesday, (29/9), 41 students majoring in architecture received a more complete explanation of the reasons why the Media Tower Building could save up to 46 percent of the total energy that should be consumed. According to Andrey Andoko, Vice Rector of the General Administration and Finance Section of UMN, the New Media Tower Building can be so frugal because it applies design technology that does not require electricity or passive design.
“One of the passive design models used is double skin technology. The use of aluminum perforated material designed with certain patterns of double skin is able to reduce direct sun heat, and provide optimal lighting to the classrooms in it. Thus without the addition of lights, the room is bright enough and comfortable to read,” explained Andrey.
Not only energy efficient, the New Media Tower is also known as an environmentally friendly building. One way taken for that is to maximize the catchment of water from the entire land, as well as the application of recycling from dirty water.
“Rainwater is accommodated in an open water pool with recycled water from the sewage treatment plant (STP). After being recycled through the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) process, the water is used to water plants, flushing water for toilets and water use in cooling towers to cool workspaces through water cooled air conditioning systems, “continued Andrey.
After listening in depth to the New Media Tower Building which in 204 won the first prize as energy efficient building tropical building category at the ASEAN Energy Award, University of Muhammadiyah Kendari Architecture students were also invited to tour to get to know the architecture, utilities and landscape of New Media Tower in depth.
They were invited to tour the business ikubator UMN Skystar Ventures on the 12th floor, the Outdoor Park on the 3rd floor of UMN, and the Water Treatment Plant system in the basement of the New Media Tower. In this campus tour, they were accompanied by Antonius Suryadi from the Building Management section of UMN.
Thank you for the honor, friends of Architecture from Muhammadiyah Kendari University. (*)
