TANGERANG – The Multimedia Nusantara Foundation’s dedication to education is inseparable from the figures of two Indonesian national press figures, Jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong. The two central figures behind the establishment of the largest media conglomerate in Indonesia, Kompas Gramedia, have contributed significantly to the nation’s intellectual life. They are also known as visionaries who humanize and educate the nation.
The first step to realizing this vision was establishing Kompas Daily in 1965, which became the forerunner of Kompas Gramedia. This was in line with the country’s constitutional mandate to educate the nation.
Jakob Oetama and P.K. Ojong instilled the vision of educating the nation through Kompas Gramedia media. They believe the media is vital in providing accurate, educational, and inspirational information to the public. Media is also considered a tool to improve the community’s quality of life and encourage the nation’s progress.
The existence of Kompas Gramedia then developed into a large and influential media conglomerate. For 60 years, Kompas Gramedia has now expanded into various business fields. Not only publishing newspapers, but Kompas Gramedia has also expanded into bookstores, hospitality chains, exhibition venues, conventions, education, property, and infrastructure.
Smart Initiative to Establish Universitas Multimedia Nusantara
The vision of educating the nation’s life was also the main inspiration for establishing the Multimedia Nusantara Foundation. In 2005, the founders of Kompas Gramedia, through the Multimedia Nusantara Foundation (Yayasan Multimedia Nusantara/YMN), established Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN).
UMN was built with the concept of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and sustainability. The idea aims to produce a young generation that is competent in the field of information and communication technology, has an entrepreneurial spirit, and has an international outlook.
UMN’s commitment to becoming a World Class University and competing internationally has also matured after obtaining 4 Stars from the international ranking agency QS Stars World University Rating. QS Stars is a ranking system for universities around the world that measures the quality of higher education, ranging from learning, graduate absorption in the workforce, and online learning to inclusiveness.
Based on these international standards, UMN won 5 Stars for the indicators of teaching, employability, online learning, and inclusiveness. This achievement further emphasizes UMN’s commitment to providing high-quality education that meets international standards.
UMN’s curriculum is also integrated with Kompas Gramedia’s values, such as caring for others (caring), being trustworthy and reliable (credible), being capable and skilled in their fields (competent), being the best (competitive), and providing the best service to the community (customer delight). The cultivation of these values has succeeded in producing UMN graduates who are not only academically proficient but also have good and noble character.

In 2021, the Multimedia Nusantara Foundation further strengthened its commitment to education through the Multimedia Nusantara Polytechnic (MNP) Vocational College. MNP is a polytechnic that focuses on vocational education in the field of information technology.
MNP is a response to the development of creative and digital industries in Indonesia that require specific expertise in the multimedia field. Therefore, MNP offers study programs that are directly connected to industry needs. MNP has also received various awards for its achievements in building collaborations with various industries.
The Establishment of MNS is an Inspiring Future of Education
Groundbreaking of Multimedia Nusantara School Building (Doc. UMN)
In 2024, the Multimedia Nusantara Foundation expanded its educational reach by establishing a school called Multimedia Nusantara School (MNS). The establishment of MNS is a new milestone and visionary step in the world of education in Indonesia, especially in technology and creativity.
With a strong background and success in establishing Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) and Multimedia Nusantara Polytechnic (MNP), MNS comes with a vision to produce young people who are academically smart, creative, innovative, and ready to face future challenges. This vision is realized through teaching the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) based curriculum. The combination of national and international curricula also forms the basis of education at MNS to produce quality education and develop the talents of each student.
To realize all the noble ideals of MNS, the construction of educational facilities and infrastructure for school buildings is also needed. The groundbreaking for the first building of MNS on Wednesday (9/10/24) became a historic moment and marked the beginning of the physical construction of this highly anticipated school.
The MNS building is designed with a modern and futuristic concept to support high-quality education. Starting from interactive classrooms, modern laboratories, spaces to express creativity, digital libraries, and green open spaces.
The construction of MNS’s first building is targeted to be completed by July 2025. Through this new building, MNS is increasingly ready to provide quality education and produce a bright, creative, and innovative young generation of Indonesia.
