October 15, 2018Minister of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) has pioneered the application of the principles of proper energy utilization for tropical climates and implementing energy conservation. This was conveyed by the Minister of National Development Planning (VAT) of The Republic of Indonesia Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro at the Green Building & Energy Management Seminar (GEMS) 2018 at the Lecture Hall of New Media Tower UMN on Tuesday (28/8).
On that occasion, Bambang explained that energy savings or conservation can be done by changing habits or lifestyles, as applied by UMN.
“Energy savings or conservation can often be done simply, even at no cost, only possible by slightly changing habits or lifestyles. Utilizing the tropical climate with bright sunlight and can be converted as electrical energy as applied on campus (UMN) this is an example where we also do energy conservation,” bambang explained.
According to Bambang, the Government still needs to educate or foster awareness of energy conservation among the public, including universities and make it part of the lifestyle.
“We still need to educate or grow public awareness, including universities, to do energy conservation. Hopefully umn pioneering in the application of energy management in campus buildings can be imitated by, or be an inspiration for, other campuses in Indonesia, “said Bambang.
On the same occasion, UMN Rector Dr. Ninok Leksono revealed that there is currently an urgent need regarding how individuals, institutions and the world in general contribute to reducing global warming.
“For that reason, Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) developed the concept of Green Technology. This is a form of small contribution of the nation’s children to reduce global warming,” ninok said.
Ninok added, as an educational institution, UMN not only focuses on producing human resources in the creative industries but also produces human resources in the field of engineering.
“Although UMN is involved in generating new power in the creative industries, we also want to advance the field of engineering to contribute to creating a greener world,” ninok concluded.
Green Building & Energy Management Seminar (GEMS) 2018 is an event initiated by umn’s Physical Engineering study program. In its second year, this seminar aims to open the insight that energy management is not only in the oil and gas industry, but also in the commercial building sector and community service buildings (such as hospitals).
Also present as speakers at the opening of GEMS 2018, Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Rida Mulyana and Director of Green Building Council Indonesia Siti Adiningsih Adiwoso. (CRA)
