November 3, 2020TANGERANG – Since social restrictions due to COVID-19, gardening activities are becoming one of the trends among the community. Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Natural Lovers Of Multimedia Nusantara University (Mapala UMN) held a seminar with the theme “Gardening in the New Normal Era”, Saturday (18/7).
The seminar, which was broadcast live on instagram @mapalaumn, was hosted by Yelesia Margiyuna and invited a Digital Creator and Urban Farming Enthusiast, Sutiknyo – familiarly called Bolang – as a source.
As a first step in gardening, Sutiknyo argues the public should dismiss the myth. I think everyone has the opportunity to garden.
“Just how committed we are to caring for the plant until it grows and grows, is beneficial for us. That’s the truth,” added Sutiknyo, a man who is also active on the @lostpacker’s Instagram account.
For other preparations, Sutiknyo said people can use anything, such as used bottles. For example, he showed his leek plants grown in used bottles of cooking oil with a simple hydroponic system. Therefore, according to Sutiknyo, there is actually no reason not to garden, even if it does not have land.
In addition, he also explained several other things related to gardening activities, ranging from tips on making and using planting media, making fertilizer, to eradicating pests. For the manufacture of planting media, Sutiknyo usually uses a mixture of burnt husks, raw husks, manure, and black soil – solid soil or volcanic soil that is known to be fertile.
However, if you want to buy planting media, he advises not to use it directly. The cause is the fermentation of manure in the planting medium that is sometimes not finished. As a result, plants can dry easily and die quickly.
“If you want to plant using the media (planting) that we buy from the gardener’s shop, open the sack first (and) didiemin first 1-2 weeks until the fermentation is complete. Or if we hold it it’s not hot anymore. That’s if for tanem, it will only live (the plant),” sutiknyo said.
Through this gardening activity, Sutiknyo also feels many benefits. For example, he can process and enjoy his own garden produce into processed variants of food. Thus, he does not need to go out often to shop. Especially in this pandemic period, it can minimize direct contact with various people. In addition, for him, gardening can also be an alternative to relieve stress.
“We will be happy if we know what the process of the food we are going to eat is like. That would be a very happy one. The advantage is that, in addition to rupiah, our mind is also good inputs, that is. Especially in these times,” sutiknyo explained.
Until now, Sutiknyo has been working on this plantation activity for about 3-4 years. For gardening references, he learned from a variety of media. Some of them, for example he watches movies, such as reality shows (reality shows) “Big Dreams, Small Spaces”; joining the garden community, such as Indonesian gardening (@idberkebun); And watch YouTube.
“The point is commitment anyway, how do we make that plant. When we have started to venture to plant, we must venture or be responsible for caring for it,” he concluded.
Moreover, UMN Friends can watch the rebroadcast of “Gardening in the New Normal Era” here. (MC/RK)
