TANGERANG – Personal protective equipment (APD) is crucially owned by medical personnel in dealing with Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients. However, the need for PPE is increasing as positive cases of COVID-19 increase, some even lack stock. To that end, Students of Nature Lovers of Multimedia Nusantara University (Mapala UMN) and UMN Bikers Association (IBU) took the initiative to raise funds related to the manufacture of HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SUIT (Hazmat suit) APD – can protect the body from exposure to viruses, liquids, and harmful chemical compounds.
A total of 85 pieces of PPE were distributed to the Friendship Central General Hospital (RSUP), East Jakarta and 15 pieces of PPE at Pacitan Health Center, East Java. Chairman of Mapala UMN, Taufan Iqbal Abdillah said the selection of these two places had been through research. They found that the hospital in Tangerang already had enough PPE. Finally, they were referred to Friendship Hospital – one of the COVID-19 positive patient referral hospitals.
“Meanwhile, Pacitan Health Center because it got information from one of the UMN students who happened to live there, and his father was one of the medical personnel at the health center. He said that APD in pacitan area is still a little stock. Finally we decided to send APD to the two instantations,” Iqbal told UMN News Service via social network, Tuesday (5/5).
Reporting from the @mapalaumn Instagram account, donations made by APD have been going on from March 31 to April 12, 2020. Mapala UMN and IBU managed to collect a donation of Rp5,005,790. However, Iqbal revealed that there were obstacles during fundraising.
“Because of course there are also many institutions or community communities that are also equally fundraising, so the target has not been met even though it is not far from the deadline. However, we try to continue to promote, and when the deadline the funds have been collected properly, “said Iqbal.
Nevertheless, he also expressed his pleasure at being able to give and deliver PPE directly, especially to friendship hospital. In addition, the feeling of pleasure was also felt by some representatives of Mapala UMN and IBU because they had not felt out of the house for a long time. This is as an effect of the social restriction policy. However, Iqbal explained that they still do not forget personal protection to the maximum when delivering PPE.
“Hopefully PPE can be used properly and wisely, and certainly not misused. Hopefully also more people are more concerned, especially during crisis conditions like this. Not only to medical personnel, especially all levels of society that are in need,” Iqbal concluded.
Previously, Mapala UMN and IBU have often worked together to raise funds related to social needs. UMN Nature Lovers Student (Mapala UMN) is a Student Activity Unit (UKM) that accommodates UMN students to get to know nature, preserve the environment, and make social contributions. Meanwhile, umn bikers association (IBU) is a student activity unit (UKM) that focuses its interest in the automotive world, especially motorcycles. Just like Mapala UMN, IBU is also often actively involved in several social activities. (*/ YC)
