February 24, 2022TANGERANG – Multimedia Nusantara University’s (UMN) Architecture Study Program, together with The Architecture Student Association (HIMARS) of UMN, held a training titled “Diagram in Architecture: Communicating Architecture through Visual” on Friday (18/2/21). This event aims to teach UMN architecture students to visualize diagrams effectively.
“The idea to conduct this webinar comes from the needs of our architecture students. They have a hard time creating diagrams to communicate,” Irma Desiyana, the UMN Architecture Study Program, said.
This training invited keynote speakers Kenny Lesmana, Geo Bramanta Rahman, and Evelyn Andifa Chandra, UMN’s architecture students, batch 2017. Irma said that these students are chosen as speakers because they are very skilled when visualizing diagrams. One of them even won an international competition, further proving their competence.
So what is a diagram? The three speakers summarized that diagrams are schematic drawings that can convey information or ideas. They expressed that telling the idea is an essential element.
“If the visuals are good, but the information or ideas in it are not clear or [not] good or whatever, it will end in vain. It’s best to make sure the information or idea is clear so the visuals can be conveyed well,” Kenny said.

The training that lasted for approximately two hours was filled with various tips and case studies in visualizing diagrams. There are four main elements in visualizing diagrams: hierarchy, contrast, highlight, and consistency. They also tell directly how the implementation of these four elements in the various projects they are working on.
In the process, the three speakers also explained the steps to visualize the diagram. These stages start from determining the information or ideas to be conveyed, planning the concept’s design, exploring various references to help deliver the visualization of ideas, visualizing the concept, and never giving up.
One of the speakers, Geo, conveyed the importance of moving forward and not being afraid to make mistakes. The three speakers also emphasized that all good things must require a process.
