October 5, 2021TANGERANG – Students of the Architecture Study Program of Multimedia Nusantara University Class 2019, Manuel Hendru, Anastasia Setiawan, and Devi Angraini won the first place in the International Conference on Blurred Boundaries: In Search of an Identity design competition themed “The Pandemic Memorial”. The results of this race were announced on Sunday (09/26/21). Through the competition organized by SMEF’s Brick School of Architecture, they carry the design concept titled “Loss and Lost”.
As one of the team’s representatives, Manuel said the inspiration for the “Loss and Lost” design stems from personal experience. At that time, he saw Indonesia still struggling about Covid-19 to take many lives. However, he saw the phenomenon as if it had reached the “familiar” point. Through “Loss and Lost”, Manuel and his team want to raise the issue of losing someone in this pandemic period as a form of memorial memories and reflections again.
“The implementation is to provide a space experience in each phase that we design so that visitors can process the taste from the time before the pandemic to after the pandemic with different goals in each phase,” said Manuel as one of the team representatives.
Secretary of UMN’s Architectural Studies Program, Irma Desiyana also revealed the attractiveness of this “Loss and Lost” design. According to him, the design themed “Loss and Lost” has simple storytelling. Nonetheless, he said they still managed to translate the simple storytelling into the flow of space, the quality of the space, and the architectural elements based on the feelings they wanted to create.

Through this victory, Irma also hopes Manuel, Anastasia, and Devi can continue to be encouraged and inspired to follow other competitions and become professional architects. In addition, Irma also hopes that this victory can be an encouragement and trigger for UMN Architecture students to remain competitive and achieve in the midst of a flurry of lectures and student organizations. Irma said the winners will be speakers at the S.Ars event. (Sharing Session architecture) held by UMN architecture study program and UMN architecture student association (HIMARS UMN).
“The three of them are top ten students and active as the core managers of HIMARS so that their activeness in lectures and organizations does not hinder them in the competition. Instead, their victory became an inspiration for other UMN Architecture students, “said Irma.
