Tangerang – On (21/11/2024), UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics held a public class with Rohan Rawte, the Director of Asia and Middle East of Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES). This public lecture encouraged students to discover how Green Buildings can be designed using the right technology.
Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) is a global company focusing on sustainable development. Established for 30 years, IES is currently the largest global innovator in the field of physical analysis. IES focuses on the construction of sustainable buildings, addressing issues of resources, health, and design.
“IES is here to help businesses build smarter cities and communities, from master planning to building operations and design. IES is software that delivers high performance. IES focuses on reducing carbon in buildings,” Rohan said.
For Rohan, today’s technology is very advanced and is not limited to designs on paper—it now requires 3D models and better analysis tools.
“To design—some tips from me are the faster you make, the faster you can correct the design, so we can be more efficient and focus on design. This design is not only the building but also the environment, whether people want to visit it, and how the performance of the existing building,” Rohan continued.
On this occasion, Rohan also explained the software used by IES to support their work, including ModelIT for model building & interoperability, SunCast to calculate and analyze solar, ApacheSim to do energy and carbon calculations, MacroFlo & MicroFlo for airflow calculations, HONE for parametric calculations and maximizing models.
“To me, buildings must be sustainable because buildings require a lot of energy, which is not necessarily sustainable and can cause global warming. Utilizing existing technology and systems can help us to design more effectively and sustainably,” Rohan explained.
